It's a Beautiful Day

Nothing quite like a stretch of great weather in Anchorage. Those of you who live here know that. I don't crank up my iTunes as often as I probably ought to but a day like this needs music. It's a doubly-beautiful day. Sunny in the mid-70's and Sarah quits. And luckily for you readers this will probably be the last time I ever rant about the shrill freak here.

Don't bother reading any other analysis about why she is a quitter. I've got the skinny here of course.

Sarah started out as a typical young married housewife. Her husband worked hard on the slope and fishing; and he pulled in some pretty typically decent cash for that sort of thing. Enough to partner up with some buddy and open a snowmachine shop. It was a classic American story; he was gone a lot and she got bored and lonely. So naturally what happens?

She sleeps with his business partner. No doubt when she explained and apologized to Todd that he told her to do something with her life. So she got on the school board or whatever and eventually got to be mayor of Methsilla. I'm sure that impressed her boob of a hubby but it didn't make him stay home any more than he had. So she gets lucky in a divisive three-way governor race and later McCain knew everyone would like her ass as much as he did so he trotted her out and the "celebrity-politician" was born.

See what fucking around on your spouse creates? That's some seriously unintended consequences. The core of her current character (the parts that aren't the invented "pose queen") has been defined by that affair. She is who she is because of it.

I don't really know or care if this twit is done with national politics or not. She's done in Alaska politics. She's deluded if she thinks she can convince anyone other than the people that already are fascinated with her to vote for her for anything. What a nutbag.

In her announcement, she reminded us that Independence Day was a day to reflect on the service that so many in the military have given on behalf of their country. Funny, I thought Veterans Day and Memorial Day were for that and Independence Day was for celebrating the formation of this fine country.

Best Independence Day EvAH for me!! First Billy Mays takes the dirt nap and now she quits? Maybe there is an omnipotent being above. Hallelujah! Testify!

And by the way, that millions of dollars that she's talking about would be 450,000 less if she'd just provide the emails they're looking for. That's how much they've spent trying to recover them because SHE won't provide them. It'll be sweet if we find out real soon that there is some dirty laundry behind all this. Who knows? I'll be smiling all weekend.

McCain called her nutty. OMG. Too funny.

Hockey coverage is next. Not until August but it is next.

Am I just paranoid, or did we lose a recruit in the last 2 weeks?

spoon said...

Who did we lose?

Donald Dunlop said...

There's no "lost" recruit. It seems Wes McLeod is coming next year instead of this year. It makes sense with his age and the number of other defensemen that will be on the roster. Scouting reports on him are that he is a bit raw but lotsa upside. Another year in the B won't hurt him at all.

Donald, you've posted this info in the past, however it doesn't appear anywhere else that I've seen.
Where did you get the down and dirty on Sarah's infidelity?

Donald Dunlop said...

I don't have the link anymore. But in addition to reading about it I've heard/had a number of conversations from the usual "friend of a friend" kind of thing.

The first time I heard about it was within a day or so of McCain picking her. I'm sure some googling would reveal where it was first published.

I saw that last week in Anchorage, a John 'Brian' Herring was arrested for an alleged rape charge. Is it the same Bryan Herring that played for the Seawolves back in the early 90's? I remember him as a talented skater for Diamond high school back in the late 1980's, very Greztkyesque..

Bailey has been cut by tri city.

Donald Dunlop said...

That's meaningless. USHL teams are allowed only 2 non-american players. They're filling those spots next year with the russian kid Radoslav and AJHL transfer Jaden Schwarz ... both "highly touted".

I'd be highly surprised if he'd actually wanted to go back to that mess of a team. They ALMOST bumped him off the roster mid-season to add the Russian. At the time, I suggested that he leave that team.

I've projected him to UAA this coming season. Yes. I know that Heisenberg has him listed for next year.

I could be wrong. We'll see when school starts. If I am wrong, there are lots of good teams in lots of good leagues where Matt can continue his development.

Anonymous said...

No worries about Bailey, he will do just fine on another team. We still have the Swede coming in next year along with a pure sniper in Spencer which should add skill and scoring to the lineup. 2010 class will be the best in a decade. 2009 will be all about the seniors. Gut check time for the goalies.

Anyone know if any of our current seawolves are in any nhl development camps? i know Lunden, & Clark were part of them last year.

I've looked around and haven't seen any but then I haven't looked at every NHL team (some of them haven't seemed to announce anything?).

Backstrom will be at the Capitals prospect camp.

Announced on western college hockey Spencer Bennett has signed with Portland and will NOT be comung to UAA. Huge loss for UAA not being able to keep this kid committed

Donald Dunlop said...

He was drafted by the Flames. Not only does their GM (Brent Sutter) own a WHL team he has the memory of Chris Chucko who was more highly touted than Bennett and after a less than distinguished career at UofM has been pretty much a bust in Calgary's system. Sutter is notoriously anti-NCAA.

Plenty will argue that its a good move for Spencer ... I'd say it's a good move by Sutter. He gets to keep a closer eye on his property. I'll hope he gets to the show .... that will make up for the loss of 4 years playing with a great staff at a great school and which might have been some of the best years of his life.

Anonymous said...

Backstrom thought he was a draft choice of detriot red wings.
Spencer, will continue to loose players unless we having a winning team this year. Plus we must promote players like, lunden, clark and grant. It is the responsibility of the coaching staff to work with these seniors, to further there hockey opportunities so we can attract top end talent to uaa. With two more teams in the wcha after this year there will be more opportunites for young players.

Also, DD do you think Bailey is better off waiting a year to further develop, or come here and learn from point mosters Lunden and Clark before they leave? Granted he can learn from Grant, and Parks, but what do you think?

Bennett was a D, so McLeod has a better chance of sticking in the lineup-just saying, wait was Bennett 09-10? or 10-11?

I think lots of players who are ready for D1 get pushed back a year more often than it should happen. Bailey is a solid prospect, he was on the Canada U-17 West team, put up good numbers in his provincial junior league and had decent numbers in his USHL campaign on a really shitty team.

Yes. I think he's ready for 09-10. That's why I listed him there contrary to Heisenberg's list and with no confirmation from anyone else.

I think another year of juniors wouldn't be a big challenge for Bailey. I tend to believe that when a player is challenged to step up that they play better as a result and develop quicker. Another year of juniors and Bailey will be that much more ready ... BUT he'll still take as much as a half a year to come up to speed with D1 hockey. Bring him in now and he'll still take 6 months to come up to speed. But he'll be up to speed a year earlier.

There's also the rumored Swedish players ... they'd both have to be 09-10 players IIRC since they're both 20 now. Will they turn up?

The 10-11 class is going to be an important one for forwards. Gellert showed good production and Cameron should be pretty much a stud. I'll watch their next junior season's closely. Scott Allen is a bit of a guess for me. Bengtson will be a question mark until he gets here and proves himself. Deferring Bailey until 10-11 might prove to be a strategically wise move by Shyiak.

So who knows really. I'm guessing ... ya know?

Anonymous said...

Gellert is coming in 09-10 and bailey is staying back til 10-11

You mistaken Nicklas Backstrom, for our Nils.

Red Wings still own Nils signing rights until 2010. Still up in the air, if he will sign, but the Red Wings D is getting older. There much more likely to sign NHLers, instead of polishing off another prospect.

Tyler Currier (Alaska Avs)to UAA! He'll be red shirting his first year. Good move on the coaching staff. Tyler has the talent, work ethic and attitude it take. After a year he will be ready to start scoring points for the Seawolves. I feel so much better with Currier in the line up than with Friese. I still don't get what the coaches were thinking with that.

The SEHL Continues to be a great place to watch Alaskas best players train and play with the majority of the games being high scoring and very fast....There are 3 Alaskans who play regularly that played last year in the NHL along with many other Top Minor Pro and College players..Almost all of the top young talent that is up in coming has skated this year....The SEHL Allstar Game is Tuesday night at the Subway Centre...Always alot of fun and a good social Event..Many former Seawolves will be playing in the game on Tuesday... The SEHL provides a valuable Commmunity Service to the Elite players and Familys who participate..For most of the Elite younger players it is a dream come true to hang out in a locker room and play with and against players like Brandon Dubinski, Joey Crabb,Tim Wallace,Jason Ryzar and the other pros and current Seawolves.. So many things are passed to these young players through just listening, watching and learning that the league has truly become a special summertime program for all....I hope to see all the Seawolve Fans out on Tuesday as before you know it the WCHA Season will be upon us.. The Goalies will be Jordan Pearce out of Notre Dame who just signed with the Redwings and Brad Macinnis out of UConn who we played last year.. Unfortunately Bryce is in Wisconsin Training for 2 weeks and had to sacrifice missing the Game..I do look forward to seeing everybody at the Games and like everybody else is wondering who has the hardest shot and is the fastest skater in Alaska... The skills competetion is alot of fun to watch and always provides a few highlights... I hope to see all the Seawolve fans at the Rink and I call the fastest skater this year will be Joey Crabb........T.C.

SEHL AllStar game sounds like a great event. What time Tuesday?

Donald Dunlop said...

So in case anyone is wondering about the part in the article that mentioned not having enough spots for him but then a spot opened up ...

Tyler Moir will not be returning to UAA. It was apparently a personal issue and his choice; so I won't be delving into that here.

And for the person comparing Friese and Currier ...

Currier turned 21 on July 5th. Friese turned 17 this past season. Friese was recruited because they think he'll turn into a "stud".

Anonymous said...

There was mention earlier that McCabe might return this season. With the addition of Currier, I take it that Brad won't rejoin the team after all?

Anonymous said...

For every one to find out Moir is not returning now is awful timing. Its just not right to the program and really puts the team in a spot. WOW. I mean the staff could have prepared for this now its an unplaned deal that isnt fair to anyone rooting for UAA including the Coaches and his Teamates..Absolutely Brutal.

Donald Dunlop said...

There are 10 forwards from last seasons team returning (aiken, clark, grant, haddad, lunden, parkinson, portwood, selby tuton and wiles).

There are 2 players listed as F/D (leinweber, gorham).

There is either 2 or 3 forwards coming this season (spencer, crowell and bailey). Bailey may not be an 09-10 player.

Currier is a redshirt.

McCabe is the unlikeliest of the additional three rumored players (Naslund, Bruijsten, McCabe), Don't be surprised though if UAA makes room for Mitch Bruijsten if he wants to come here.

I'd expect with only a few exceptions that there will be lots of competition for playing time amongst forwards. LOTS.

Donald Dunlop said...

They seemed to have responded to the unexpected nature of Moir's departure by replacing him with Currier.

They're both named Tyler.

Seriously though ... What "spot" does it put the program in? None that I can see. As I mentioned above ... there is a PLETHORA of forwards here and plenty coming in.

Anonymous said...

If anything its great that UAA has recruits planned ahead down the road. They can get a call up and be here to play, kinda like Bryce did when he started.

".....its an unplanned deal that isn't fair to anyone."

Yes, It is too bad about Moir not returning. I absolutely have no idea why Tyler isn't returning but have you ever thought that it is something beyond his control and something that is unfair even to Tyler??? We shouldn't be too quick to jump and judge. That is just what happened last season with McCabe's departure. There may reasons that we will never know in both cases.

It IS too bad. It is a big void to fill but we have to respect his decision to leave the program.
With that said, let's not sit and complain about what has happened. Let's look positively to what the new season is going to bring.
