The New Conference's Name Is Whut?

I figure by the time most people read this that the Butt Hurt Hockey Conference (Denver, UND, UMD, CC, Miami and UNO) will have an official name.  Before that happens, I just want to get on the record.  This is literally the only thing I care about with regard to the BHHC's plans.
 Dear BHHC folks,
If you people could please really name your conference "College Hockey Super League" or "Super College Hockey League" or ... aw hell, anything with "Super" in it; well ... that would really be grand.  Please do.  No foolin'.

I personally would be delighted with the options that presents here on this blog; both in the near and more distant future.  Trust me on this ... just the prospect of such a name has already put a smile on faces all across the college hockey landscape.

Otherwise, good luck with whatever the hell else.
Regards and Buh-bye,
D
So that's it for now.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Atlantic Hockey West now has 6 team and the auto bid is safe. Great News!

Anonymous said...

Its the WCHA for 2 more seasons then it loses its 7 best programs and then it becomes Atlantic Hockey West. Most people do feel bad for Bemidji as they deserve better but on a positive note at least they will really only have to go through SCSU to get the auto bid. Oh and relax no teams from the BIG TEN or NCHC conference will want to make a trip to Sullivan so your safe. Have a great Summer!

Anonymous said...

Bemidji had one of the worst showings of a team for their first year in the WCHA. I wouldn't be TOO sorry for them.

NCAA DI hockey is nothing but DI and DII teams all mixed up. It's no wonder the "haves" want their own clubhouse. I don't care what anybody says, this is better for the Wolves. More wins means more fans means more money means more commitments means more wins means more fans means more money means a new arena. What's the problem?

Anonymous said...

Dr. Cobb is supposed to be on NPR on Wednesday, 2 pm, talking about the new arena and who helped make it happen.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know why Mellor's name isn't on the UAA roster for this fall?

Donald Dunlop said...

None of the incoming freshmen's names are on the roster. There is zero significance in it.

That usually happens just before September 1st. Regardless of verbal or signed commitment there are occasionally players that everyone expected to show up but that don't for one reason or another. Doesn't happen that often but often enough that most schools put their roster up after the players have registered for classes.

The playoff revenue for the remaining WCHA teams come 2013-14 does not look good. No more $100k+ payouts.

Anonymous said...

WCHA should add two more teams IMHO.

"It's the WCHA. Whining butt-hurt lying backstabbing overly self-enamored Big 10 wannabes have nothing to say about it. Trolls like you should just sit back and shut the fuck up for the next two seasons before exiting quietly."

What exactly do any of the teams who left the WCHA owe the remaining clubs? Mankato, Tech, and UAA series are god awful to watch and the results are lose lose for the opposing team since the opponent is irrelevant in national rankings. Good riddance to the leeches.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 10:26, just remember that even the "Super" league is going to have a cellar dweller. It is going to be interesting seeing which "super" team won't make home ice for the playoffs, or an NCAA bid.

But hey, yout team has two more years...

marooned said...

Good riddance to the leeches? What a joke. It absolutely amazes me when retards try and talk college hockey. Good on you, though, for learning how to put letters together. That's so brave.

Well I guess by that logic, the CCHA and WCHA, minus ND, might as well fold (all that's left are the bottom dwellers anyway). Good riddance to them for dragging down the real programs. Bastards! Hockey East might as well just be Hockey Boston and scrape all the leeches off of their legs (they win all the titles anyway). ECAC? When was the last time any of them ever posed a threat? They're just a pack of nancy boy lawyers on skates. I guess Yale might be okay, sord'a kind'a. Union? Naw, toss them in with the rest of the leeches. AHA? Seriously, I've had bowel movements tougher than them. Flush. So who does that leave for our new Super Best Friends League? The two Bostons, Yale (ehh, maybe), and ND. Damn, that's only four. Might have to bring back a couple leeches. Anybody know the number for St. Cloud and Bemidji?

Interesting article!! I love this quote:

"The "State of Hockey" is a title that Minnesota has taken on, and while its still true that you will find more registered hockey players in Minnesota than anywhere else, if you have a room of 500 Alaskans and 500 Minnesotans, there is likely to be more hockey players from Alaska than Minnesota. Indeed, hockey has really taken off in Alaska in the past 20 years, to the point that they can now claim to be the "state of hockey".

Alaska doesn't even have a college team..oh wait..I forgot about Fairbanks.

Oh man, these comments rolling in are just too much!

You can tell that Donald must be out of town or maybe just taking a breather from here. But wow - the anonoheads are running ramped on here.

Donald, when you get back.. I'd be interested in knowing which state 10:26 is from if you can spill that info. Just curious. (Or BBEF, can you do that? ♥ )

Is it October yet? :0)

Should be that anybody actually can look at my stats page which is where the locations and times of posts are displayed. it takes a bit to figure it out at first but after that it's not too hard. But it only keeps the last 100.

Anon @ 649:
Nice find. Great article. I started a thread on USCHO referencing that link. Should be a fun read over the next few days.

I love the brave folks who come here to read and post snide remarks but do not have the courage to even put their name to it. That must be why they follow teams that sneak out of their conference like the Colts leaving Baltimore.

BBEF said...

Ted,

The Colts leaving Baltimore is almost before my time (I was less than 2 years old). Did they really leave in the middle of the night? That's what I read online but my older co-workers seem to disagree.

mmf said it the best on the Nanook blog:

"With all due respect, we have no business in the new league. By their own accounts they are a Super League of Ultra-talented Teams (SLUTs). We are not SLUT material. We should not want to hang with the SLUTs".

Priceless!!!

Anonymous said...

Hmmmm, I guess you don't really understand what exactly a slut is. LOL. So which of the soon to be SLUT teams did you graduate from?

Another excellent article on the teams forming the new SLUT league:

http://tinyurl.com/3fb2zvl

"We're focused on what makes the game better and what enhances hockey for these six institutions," DU coach George Gwozdecky said at the press conference.

The key words: For these six institutions. To heck with everyone else.

Let's call the NCHC for what it is: a giant cash grab grown from fear and jealousy and an insult to college hockey, its smaller schools and the fans in places like Houghton".

And most of this can be blamed on Gwozdecky. Since the WCHA is based in Denver, it will get very interesting over the next to years.

Anonymous said...

Most fans on this site keep talking about butt hurting feelings which is funny because its pretty clear from reading posts on the college hockey websites that the people with the most butt hurt feelings are UAA and SCSU fans. The teams in the NCHC and Big Ten are leaving. get over it and grow up. Its time you move on and be excited that UAA may actually have a change of hosting a WCHA playoff series. When was the last time this happened....oh yeah never. Lets face it UAA has no change of winning the WCHA as long as the NCHC teams are in it.

Anonymous said...

No butt hurt here, but I do find the Nanook fans term "SLUT" league quite humorous. It will be interesting to see which of the "Super" teams ends up being the bottom feeders. My picks are DU, CC, and UMD.

Anonymous said...

The first Super Friends bottom feeder will be NO.

Anonymous said...

So let me get this straight it was greedy and bad for college hockey when the 5 NCHC teams decided to leave the WCHA but it was not greedy when UAA, MSU, MTU, BSU, and SCSU gave their approval this spring to poach Notre Dame and Miami which would kill the CCHA. Just like its not greedy to poach UAF and NMU from the CCHA now. But keep thinking that the remaining WCHA teams are looking out for all of college hockey. Wow! the remaining WCHA teams are saints!

Anonymous said...

I don't think the WCHA is looking to poach UAF as much as UAF wants to join the WCHA. NMU simply came home where they used to be. ;)

At this point, it's now about survival.

Money! Why all the finger pointing, angst, hurt feelings? It's the Money! Big Ten TV..Money! WCHA split the pot...Money! Each program will end up at the level they are able to generate Money to. Good for college hockey in the long run? We'll see. But in the end it's all about the Money. Wife says I'm jaded.

Donald Dunlop said...

Al,
I actually prefer the word DISILLUSIONED to "jaded". When a person becomes disillusioned that means they are no longer living within an illusion. Strange to me that "disillusioned" has a negative connotation when it seems to me that such a state of being is more the natural human condition.

BBEF, what on earth are we going to do once we go to different leagues? Will you promise to still hang out with us? ♥ I'm excited about the changes, but hope that as long as Donald has this blog that you'll be a part of it. :0)

Valdez is gorgeous! I've only gone there for halibut fishing in the summer, but I remember seeing photos in the Anchorage paper of their annual winter carnival. They build that massive outdoor theater screen (chiseled out of snow) and the entire town shows up to watch "Back to the Beach" on a giant snow-screen. Pretty creative.. :D

BBEF~ "NCHC" is kind of a tongue twister. Is that really what they've decided on?

Colorado Springs sounds like a decent place for them to base their operation though. Easy for you to keep an eye on them.. ;)

Alaska Hockey~ "Golden Ticket"? Who came up with that one, Willy Wonka? :D

So guys.. just what on earth is a "virtual groundbreaking" anyway? Is somebody actually going to be on the grounds turning over some dirt or is the UAA Graphics Department throwing together a cartoon video of Sparky - or Spirit - or whatever his name is?

I can see it now. I'll be standing there with my Golden Willy Wonka ticket in my hand watching a video cartoon of our ugly mascot with a little cartoon shovel.. :-O

Mailainse, I just watched Charlie Sokatis on Channel 2.. He talked about the merger of Fairbanks and Anchorage into the WCHA, and said that "it's not over yet and will likely be a while before we know all the teams that will join the WCHA"

To me it would be especially kewl to see Huntsville join in too since my big brother has been living there the past 8 years. ;)

Still. I'm excited that Fairbanks will be part of our league!! YeahHHHHHaaaaaaaaaaAAA!!!!!!
