Over The Boards tweeted yesterday that Sean MacTavish (20yo, 6ft, 190lb right-hander), the son of former Edmonton Oiler's player, Head Coach and GM Craig MacTavish, is coming to UAA after previously giving a verbal commitment to Boston University. Thanks to Anon for the comment in the last post for giving the heads up.
The tweet says, "Nice pull out of the USHL for UAA." And I certainly can't disagree. Sean had good numbers his first two junior years in the AJHL with Sherwood Park scoring near 1ppg over those seasons. Last year he played for three different USHL teams and seemed to struggle statistically except while with Lincoln where he bagged 3 goals with 4 assists in 14 games. Good work from the UAA staff (I'm assuming this is Josh Ciocco's handiwork) securing this.
The addition of another forward to the UAA roster brings the total number to 20. Not to put too fine a point on it but there's 12 guys that dress for a game. Before this announcement there was going to be boatloads of competition for playing time. Now there's even more.
Welcome to UAA Sean.

Good pickup, and as far as players not coming back I am pretty sure friesen and trupp are not returning, if you look at the roster they're #s are taken by freshman coming in.
Just my 2 cents
Anon,
Nothing wrong with your assumption. I kinda figured a projected returner or two might not come back and your numbers correlation is as good an indicator as any. We'll see what the roster looks like after school starts.
Huh. Both Friesen and Trupp are on the new roster on the GoSeawolves website for the 2015/16 season. They've updated the look of the roster since the last time I looked at it.. months ago. Like Donald sez though... we'll look at the roster after school starts.
On a different note~ has anyone seen an updates on how the Sully is coming along? I can't wait to see what the wine & grey (wine and grey?!?) makeover looks like..
arctifox,
if you look carefully at the numbers assigned in the left column you'll see that Friesen and Trupp's numbers are also listed for two freshman ... that seems like a message from the folks updating the roster to me. It isn't a sure thing but I lean toward thinking that's the case.
Oh, ok! Gotta it now Donald. :0)
I wouldn't put too much stock in Trupp and Friesen still being on the roster. There are 4 goalies listed as well and one of them is leaving. Not sure why they aren't updating it with actual info as they know it. So, is Tuttle the guy or not? Geeze, almost 2 weeks now and no announcement. Hackett said 1 week or a week and a couple days until the news would be made public.
Should be a no-brainer on Tuttle I'd think. They had a fixed amount of dollars they were already spending so it's not like Keith Hackett has to justify any new contract to his management. I'd imagine whatever the delay is ... isn't a big deal.
I meant to add ... as to making announcements or changes to rosters falls under the privacy rules. When you do or have heard these things in the past it's because the player made some sort of statement or method to publically acknowledge their status. The school and it's staff have strict regulations to follow with regard to privacy.
And oh yeah ... Matyas, Friesen and Trupp are no longer on the roster. As of today.
Wow. With all the cuts at UAA due to the budget deficits, I am shocked to read about the volleyball players going to the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia and Italy on their 10-day tour.
Who pays for THIS?
Interesting tweet:

Craig MacTavish's boy Sean was seriously considering U of Alaska Anchorage before Boston U came calling, now back to Alaska.#oilers
anon@4:14 - The program (the university) pays for it. And if you didn't notice ... fully half of the expenditures from the Athletic Department come from revenue raised by ticket sales.
The truth is that there really isn't a budget issue. It's an issue of will. There is no will to access the $53,000,000,000 in the states savings account. Instead, you've got legislators running around pretending the sky is falling and forcing cuts across the board in state funded organizations to satisfy the false ethos of economic conservatism.
The bastards tell you their broke no matter what they have in their wallet.
The vball trip to Europe was paid by donations from boosters and fundraisers not tax payer money
Thanks anon@928 it's always a pleasure to have you comment here.
... the state has about a 2 billion dollar budget so it's good to know that 20 or 30 thousand dollars spent on a Volleyball team that has delighted thousands of fans and represented this university so very very well both on the court and in the classroom was done so with private funds. Phew ... and there I was thinking that the state budget would be $2,000,030,000 instead of $2,000,000,000.
