Matt Bailey, Brett Cameron, Rob Gunderson, Chris Kamal, Jordan Kwas, Wes McLeod, Andrew Pickering, Mark Pustin and Quinn Sproule are the nine members of this years Seawolves sophomore class. Most of these guys are already established players easily worthy of the veteran moniker.

Step One: 2 Points On Friday Night
Curtis Leinweber put two pucks home tonight to lead the Seawolves in a 4-1 win over Michigan Tech. Wes McLeod and Craig Parkinson both added goals to round out the scoring. The Seawolves had multiple scoring chances early in the game including a Vidmar shot that rang loudly off the crossbar.

How Sweep It Is ... Seawolves 2 - CC 1
Two important things happened tonight. The most important is that the squad got an extremely meaningful 2 points that helped solidify themselves above the group of teams below them in the conference standings. UAA's 14 points also puts them just 2 points below three team currently tied for 5th place (CC, Minnesota, Wisconsin).

Seawolves Travel to Bemidji
The Seawolves hit the road this morning on their way to Bemidji. I'm curious if they get off the plane in Minneapolis and jump right onto a bus for the 225 mile trip to Bemidji. Or if maybe they stay in Minneapolis find some ice to skate on; then overnight there before heading up to Bemidji on Thursday. I'd tend to think 5+ hours on a plane then 5+ hours on a bus combined with all the departure and arrival nonsense would be a bit much.

Mellor Tapped For 2010 Canada West Jr. A Camp
2011 Seawolves recruit Sam Mellor has been named to attend the 41 player Team Canada West evaluation camp on September 27th and 28th in preparation for the 2010 World Junior A Challenge. The Junior A Challenge takes place from November 8th through the 14th and is hosted each year by Hockey Canada to showcase junior A talent from around the world.
Along with Canada West are teams from Canada East, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden and the United States. Current UAA defenseman Wes McLeod took part in last years tournament and was named to the 6 member All-Tournament team.
This year's tournament will be held in Penticton B.C. which is also the venue for the evaluation camp. Good luck to Sam in making the final roster. 17 year-old Mellor is in his 2nd year of Junior A with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL and is currently tied for 2nd league-wide with 6 goals in 5 games. The Smoke Eaters are on the road today facing Surrey and play Langley on Thursday.

The 2010-2011 UAA Seawolves Freshman Class
This group of freshman players is one of the larger classes of rookies that we'll typically see coming into our beloved program. At this hopeful time of year, there are a couple of positives that could or should come out of having this many freshman players. The 1st is simply that every one of these players will be competing for playing time. The 2nd is that the bigger stable you have the more likely you'll find a horse that can really run.
Which of these guys could be one of those horses is hard to predict. Maybe they can all really run. Odds are though that not all of them will shine right away, if at all. There is a lot depending on finding some gems here. On any given night, the Seawolves goaltender is going to be a freshman. And let's face it, the seniors, juniors and sophomores are going to need some assistance in the scoring department.
