Wes McLeod Named to WJAC Canada West Team

UAA Seawolves 2010/11 recruit, 19 year old defenseman Wes McLeod of the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings was named to the Canada West roster for the World Junior A Championships to be held November 1st - 8th in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

The six team Junior A championship tournament features Canada West along with teams from Canada East, Russia, Sweden, Belarus and the United States.

11 players from the BCHL made the squad with just 4 named from the AJHL.

Congratulations to Wes on this nice accomplishment. McLeod has 5 goals and 9 assists in 15 games so far this season for Prince George and is 3rd overall on his team in points and is the 2nd leading blueline scorer in the BCHL.

I have to say there's some general agreement that this years UAA squad is perhaps the best team we've seen during the Shyiak years. But next year the Seawolves could be even better. It's early to say that but damn ... it's looking good.

No doubt we might have some really good players coming in. Wes is doing well in the BCHL. Gunderson has shown some a lot of good things in the AJHL and Bailey is doing very well for Sioux Falls, 2 goals tonight and now over a point per game in the USHL. Not to mention that I am really liking what I have seen from Sam Mellor. His stats seem to be getting better and better as he adjusts to playing in the BCHL this year. In a couple years it will be great to have him wearing the Green and Gold.

Mellor could very well be a candidate to accelerate and come in next season instead of waiting until 2011.

It took him until near the end of his Junior B season to find his scoring touch. But he's finding it early as a Junior A player on a team that frankly isn't doing very well (no offense Trail fans ... your team is very young).

Shyiak might think about getting him here while the getting is good (i.e... before he thinks too much about going Major Junior).

I hate to be a nay sayer, but in watching the UM/UND game last night, the Sioux look very fast, aggressive and talented. Next weekend will be a good measuring stick for the Wolves. I hope they are ready! And I hope we get our injured guys back.

Come on Donald, no referrals in the game day section?! Where's the love?

I linked to both of the newsminer stories. I'm saving the UA_ bashing for when UAA and UA_ play. I don't have an endless supply of material ... ya know?
