2014-2015 Season Over

Mercifully the season is over with tonight's loss to UA_. It was as tough season for a fan to go through as we've ever had. And I say that having gone through some pretty awful seasons. I thought this weekend was a pretty good example of what we've seen all year from the Seawolves. We saw some guys giving it their all and some guys not giving their all. We saw individual players try to do too much themselves. We saw guys take selfish and dumb penalties.

There was persistence and character displayed by our guys at times. Just as there was through the whole season. We saw some nice skills and some well executed plays. But none of the positives were anywhere near enough to have any consistent success.

There's more than a few reasons for this awful year. I've touched on some of them here but it serves no purpose at this point to rehash all that. It'll be a year from now before we see how many of the causes can be rectified.

In case you didn't notice, I gave up on the season more than a couple of weeks ago. Blame my high expectations coming into the season for the crash in my fandom.

I'll have a comprehensive recruit update forthwith. Time to look forward to next year and start with all the guessing and speculation and hoping.

All the best to the Seniors in their hockey and non-hockey futures. There can be nothing but respect toward 4 year student-athletes. It takes loads of character and dedication and organization to make that happen. Congratulations to those guys and I hope they always fondly look back on the last 4 years.

Rock on Donald. I'm so glad that you're back! And you're right, mercifully, this season is over. I still look forward to next season though and I look forward to your blog. :0)

On a different topic.. does anyone know what the big changes on the horizon at the Wells Fargo Center are? I don't mean the new locker rooms. I heard they're toying with the idea of expanding the center on two sides and making other structural changes.

Engineering said the wall directly opposite the bleacher area backs up to a strip of land with a small creek but that there's room for that wall to be pushed back.

For what? Installation of seats?

They do have a large parking garage behind the area that's available at night.

But would they? Could they? Will they? Who knows!

There is room, right on the outside of the North wall is a one lane loading road, then a small wooden structure that the ROTC program uses. Then comes a paved trail, I'd say about 25-35 feet till the trail? Chester Creek curves down toward the east end of the hockey rink portion of the Wells Fargo.

There's always next season!

I heard that they were talking about knocking out the north wall and adding seats, to turn the Farg into an on campus arena. But I also heard that the infrastructure is too old for it to be feasible. Still talking about a new on campus arena. Maybe some day?

When and if an on-campus arena becomes a thing, you're going to want at least 4000 seats (I'd like to see it closer to 5K). Yeah, I know that the Seawolves don't put that many butts in the seats right now but when/if the program turns around we don't want them playing in the Wells Fargo in front of 2000 people. The same people are in charge of making an on-campus arena a reality that have been in charge of that for years. So we'll just have to continue to wait and see.

I still like the more intimate number of 3000-3500 seats. Look at small barns like Ferris State, they don't hold a lot of fans but the atmosphere is good because it's full. Unless the Aces go away, I think the days of getting 6000 fans to the Sully are over. Heck, the Aces don't even get that many fans. I do think it's the economy in large part ... looking over college hockey attendance numbers across the nation, many schools dealt with small numbers.

Just took an AK born friend to Amsoil Arena in Duluth. He was blown away. An arena like that would be perfect!
