Post Game Interviews vs Minnesota State 2-11

A really short interview from Coach Shyiak as your idiot blogger forgot to charge his camera and the battery died in the middle of the interview. Oops.

Another close game where a single mistake did the Seawolves in. It is often a broken record that seems to be going on this season. I will defend to the point that it is, for the most part, not Coach's fault. Some onus needs to be taken by the players on their own play. They are after all, adults and should be held responsible for their own faults and successes. A coach is only responsible for so much.

NO this Series was lost because our dmen made a horrible turnovers in our zone (warner mainly), I seriously hope he doesnt' come back next year.

Then why have a coach?

The team needs a better coach. Shyaik has many years trying to improve this team, with little to show for it. The program is failing poorly, sad to say, but it's the truth. Just go to a game in Fairbanks and see how the fans enjoy the game. The fans always support the team.UAA needs support like the Nooks have. Just sayin :)

Fairbanks games have been far from sellout crowds, so their fans aren't coming out in droves either.

Time to start over, what's happening with this team, isn't working, sack Shyiak and move on.

It was Skate with the Seawolves today. UAA story has a link to photos.

Warner played solid both nights, he blocked a ton of shots. I hope he DOES come back next season, he's solid and a leader.

Agree with you completely Anon 7:16 pm about Warner. Unreal that someone would call for a player to leave a program for a mistake. If that's the case then no player in any league, at any level, in any sport should ever return the next season. Get real Anon 11:53 pm. Another great job by the Blueliners with Skate with the Seawolves today.

warner has a -30 +/- on the season.

AM said...

Yes Warner has -30 but he's also one of only two players who have played all 28 games this season where 103 goals were scored against us... There is no reason to point your finger at one player when it's the entire team who is responsible for our record... While you were looking up his stats did you also notice Warner leads the team in assists and leads our defensemen in points? I guess not...

Warner is a solid player, and will play even a bigger role next season. If he left we'd have four returning D, three would be sophomores, one would be a junior. He might even be captain next season you anon twat. He is from Anchorage, and has stuck it out playing for UAA.

Anyways, even though we got swept, I liked what I saw saturday night for sure. Wide open hockey and we stuck around with MSU. Gundy came up with some big saves, except for that unfortunate puck in the air. We need to cash in when we get opportunities, if we had done this, we would have a winning season. Getting three/four high quality looks and shots per game and only converting one or two is not gonna cut it. As the season progress, the more I like Alex Gellert. Now, he is seemingly in the right places at the right times to make a good play. I alson liked Andrew Pickering until that hit on Zuck? I think. There was no need for that hit, score the game winning goal instead of getting back at the other team man.

And, why get rid of Shyiak? We only got one more season after this until we play in the watered down WCHA. Who in the bloody hell are we gonna hire then? Seeing as all the other coaches we've hired haven't done crap with the same opportunity as Shyiak. Until we get a new AD, I say Shyiak stays. Who is gonna want to coach us in the new WCHA?

Has this team the ability to win in this league? Absolutely. They prove it night in and night out. Shyiak has his team play playoff style close checking playoff style hockey. Look what they did last year in Minnesota. They outplayed Colorado in the Final Five but were beat by poor puck luck. And calling college players out like above comments is chicken shit. Grow up. Support your team or shut up.

As a fan of another WCHA team, I don't think Shyiak can shoulder all the blame. The fact that either top and/or really good players don't want to come wear a Seawolf jersey is not a new phenomena which magically occurred under Shyiak's watch. If you can't get top players, you usually don't win no matter who the coach is.

But we do have some really good players on the team, and some coming in next season. The problem is we don't have a team full of them like other WCHA teams do.

None of the coaches at UAA have had success, so it's really time to start looking at the AD and other administration.

Gotta get an on campus rink/stadium. The new building should have the capacity to hold hockey or they should not build it! For crying out loud the Hockey team is the only D1 sport on campus. You don't think people will come out to see the Seawolves in their new building?

Wow a lot of comments! A few more....Get some offense...soon and please. The possession game behind the net does not work, let me repeat DOES NOT WORK. You can score 0 goals from back there. You create offense from the rush or from the point. We dink around with the puck and oops, turn it over and now you got 2 guys trapped behind the break-out. Not good. We are doing some things that are improving...not our offense it stinks. Stats do tell a tale believe it or not. Don't kid yourselves. WCHA play, last in team offense last in team defense. We holding out or on for a shot at the playoffs? Why do we have that attitude? Calling for the coaches head? No, just a change in the style of play we have settled into...enough/.... peace

Hockey is not the only D 1 sport at UAA

Are you trying to cause trouble by correcting the uninformed here?

Many people seem to forget that for many years the UAA hockey team made enough money that it supported ALL of the other sports at UAA. But go ahead and leave hockey out of the new arena, yeah ... that's real gratitude for ya.

Did I miss something? I forgot how the Ski program regularly draws several thousand paid fans to come out and watch.. Leaving the Hockey team high and dry and without a real home rink is totally absurd! If the new arena is built with no rink in the plans then Steve Cobb and rest of 'em must go!

Anonymous said...

I know this won't matter in this conversation at all but Gymnastics is the other program at UAA that is D1. Not ski.

There you go again setting the record straight. Apparently you're not aware that the Anons on this site aren't interested in being informed. They just want to spew venom.

For the past year I've been hearing info about the Sully being remodeled ... Cobb even said so on TV several months ago when asked why hockey was not included in the plans for the new arena. This appears to be smoke and mirrors. I got this reply today from the Contract Administrator for the Muni:

"Thank you for your recent e-mail to the Mayor regarding upgrades to the Sullivan Arena. It is this administration’s goal to provide the much needed upgrades to the existing facilities.

The top two priorities of improvements are: 1) life safety issues and 2) to protect and extend the life of the facility. In the past few years there have been several upgrades to the Sullivan Arena. While some of the upgrades can be readily noticed by the general public, not all needed improvements are noticeable. Recent improvements that can be noticed by the general public have been to upgrade the two lounges that serve guests and energy efficient lighting both inside the building and outside. Upgrades in the lower levels of the building which are not accessed by the general public include the same energy efficient lighting along with improvements to the locker rooms used by both local and visiting sports teams and other organizations that utilize the facility.

In 2012, planned improvements are to replace the original water piping within the building due to continued leaks. Additional work will be on the concrete sidewalks which are now broken and uneven which create trip hazards. The ceiling in the announcer’s booth was recently damaged due to water leaks and the management firm is in the process of getting a contractor to repair the damage.

Due to the continual use of the building during the winter months, the majority of work performed at the Sullivan Arena can only take place during the months of June – August and then needing to work around scheduled events".

It appears that, contrary to what is being spewed by the AD, there are NO immediate plans to upgrate the Sullivan Arena.
