Blaine's Eric Scheid Ends Drought with OT GWG vs. St. Cloud

Thank god nobody can say that UAA hasn't beaten SCSU on National Hockey Center ice anymore.  More appropriately, thank Eric Scheid as he scored the Seawolves first and last goal of the night.  I didn't see the game so this entry is about nothing other than putting that long stat of not winning in that joint behind us.

The Seawolves did everything to get a win a couple of years ago as a clock adjustment in the last 30 seconds gave St. Cloud the extra portions of a second along with the clock person at the NHC starting the clock VERY slowly.  It took a 6 on 4 extra attacker and power play to deny that win with .1 second left in the game.

That night the Seawolves weren't able to score the game winner in OT.  Tonight Eric Scheid picked up that responsibility with his second goal.  I hope Eric's family was at the game to see it.

Good on the boys for the nice win.  That is all.

Wisconsin 4 - Seawolves 0

Being outscored four to nothing doesn't necessarily mean you were outplayed by that much.  I thought tonight's game was closer than the score would indicate.  The difference to me was that once the Badgers got up by 2 goals they really played well in the neutral zone and in their own end.  The Seawolves were hard pressed to manufacture scoring chances.

UAA/MTU: Friday Night Photos and Recap

During the game last night I was proud of myself for making sure that I wrote down thoughts and observations as they occurred to me.  I've tried making such notes in the past and rarely used much of it in my final posts.  But last night I put gold onto the page.  Pure genius.  Unfortunately for you guys ... the browser window on the graciously loaned Windoze netbook I've been using wasn't actually on the interwebs ... and so all that hockey blogging gold went for naught.  It was frustrating so I went to bed and put this off til this morning.

2011-2012 Freshman Class

Scott Allen, Austin Coldwell, Derek Docken, Corbin Karl, Sam Mellor, Andrew Pettitt, Kory Roy and Eric Scheid are the eight new Seawolves this season.  Perhaps the best thing every season about analyzing the freshman is that I don't really know what they bring to the party.  So it's all pure anticipation.  And I'm full of positive anticipation regarding these guys.

Dear 2011 Seawolves Freshmen

All,
Welcome to Anchorage, UAA and Alaska. It's cool here, you'll probably like it and all that ... but summer is over, classes are in session and hopefully you are all taking captains practices seriously and getting fit.  There's a boatload of y'all.  And this year's team is gonna need you all to be fit and ready to go in just less than a month.

2010-2011 UAA Recruit Wrap-Up

Time for the season ending update for the incoming Seawolves rookie class.  This is a real positive group of committed players led perhaps by Sam Mellor but there's lots of other good players coming to wear the Green and Gold next year who look to turn a few heads also.

Larson and Scheid Commit To Seawolves

Forward Eric Scheid and defenseman Tony Larson from Blaine High School in Minnesota have verbally committed to play for the UAA Seawolves for the 2011-2012 season.

Scheid (5'9" 155lbs, May 92) finished the 09/10 season as the 2nd leading scorer on the Blaine squad with 55 points (23g,32a) behind Nick Bjugstad.  Larson (5'10" 175lbs, Oct 91) was the leading scoring defenseman with 32 points (6g,26a) for 5th on the team.

Both are expected to play in the USHL next season.  I don't follow discussions about Minnesota-based players since UAA typically doesn't recruit heavily there; so I invite some kind reader to submit whatever scouting info/knowledge they possess about these latest UAA recruits.
