Sunday Potpourri: Short and Sweet

There's no Seawolf hockey until next year. I will be here. I will be monitoring news. I will be posting any commentary and/or analysis that occurs to me.

But ... hey it's a break and I'll be having some of that as well. The point is that you shouldn't expect my nearly post per day average that you've seen so far this season. I'll be reposting some things I've written over the last three years in celebration (sic) of that anniversary.

If you see some news in another venue then stop by to see what I think as I'll probably comment.

As to this past weekends games. Just as we shouldn't allow the good results to make us overly optimistic, we shouldn't let one stinker make us lose our faith. There already have been and probably will be more interlopers come here and tell us how the team we love sucks. Ignore the assholes. I will. The season isn't quite half over.

I'm with you and I'm ignoring the assholes. Even with losses like this wknd. there are enough of us out there who love the Seawolves. To hell with everyone else.

I was checking the attendance of Division I teams. For those who have mentioned that Nebraska Omaha and Bimidji State could threaten UAA's status in the WCHA, based solely on UAA's attendance: take a look at the stats.

UNO's building holds 16,680, yet is only 1/3 full, average attendance is 5601.

Bimidji State's arena holds only 2415, and they can't even fill that up. They average just over 2000 fans.

Many DI teams are struggling with low attendance right now, with only FOUR teams out of 58 averaging a sellout.

FYI...anyone interested in seeing next year freshman Gustav Bengtson play.....the Topeka Roadrunners will be at the Wasilla Sports Complex this Wednesday, friday and Saturday nights playing against the Avs. Might be worth the trip to Wasilla to see what future talent Shyiak has in store for the team.

Not to be a negative nelly here but anyone deciding to go should be aware that Bengtson played in only 2 of the 3 games versus Kenai this past week.

Forget coming out to Wasilla to watch Bengtson. According to Pointstreak, Kenai River acquired him in a trade on 12/7.

Nice catch ... thanks for the heads up. Hopefully for Gustav this means he be on the ice every game the rest of the season and that will translate into some actual production.

I already follow all the recruits fairly closely but I'll be checking every Kenai boxscore from now on.

Hopefully he sees this as an opportunity. With him closer to his future home I'd imagine that UAA staff can more closely monitor his development.

Best of luck to Gustav with his new team.

Thanks for the good read throughout the season, Donald. Don't worry, Seawolf fans, better a blow-out in many ways to end the calendar year than yet another one-goal loss. The boys are for real, and back in September we'd all have been happy to know that come December they can skate with any team in the nation. Cheers.

I went to the Avalanche game anyway, mainly because there is no hockey for a while. Pretty good game. Robb Haider plays for the Avs. A couple other guys from Anchorage as well.

Thanks Donald, for your informative and entertaining blog. The team played great. The second half will be tough, but I predict a winning season, and a home playoff series. Go Seawolves!!
