The Former Seawolves Update

Hey everybody it's James back again, this time with a real post. As the playoffs get set to begin in the numerous professional leagues around North America, let's take a look at where the Seawolf alumni are playing at (if I am missing anybody let me know):

Starting off in "The Show", the National Hockey League (NHL):
Curtis pretty much begins and ends our look at the NHL. Jay Beagle played 6 games (1G - 1A - 2p) for the Washington Capitals but is currently in Hershey, their AHL affiliate.
On to the "A", the American Hockey League (AHL):
Notes: Mat Robinson was at Binghampton but was recently sent down to Elmira of the ECHL. Charlie K is indeed playing at Syracuse but the team website doesn't show him, however he is there.
Speaking of that, here's the league a lot of us know, the ECHL:
Next up is the old U-Haul league or United Hockey League, now the International Hockey League (IHL):
Onto the Central Hockey League (CHL):
Next up is the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL):
Over to Europe now, First up is the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL):
Final stop is Holland's Eredivsie:

Couple of notes: Jim Dahl was with the Aces but is not listed as active. Kevin Reiter was in England but is not active currently.

Alright that is everybody that is active that I've found. I know some might not like the fact I've included Westcott and Walsky but, despite what you think of them, they are former Seawolves. I left out Dustin Molle I know, I have my reasons. If I really did miss anybody comment and let me know, I'll double check it.

Great update on previous players who played here, the success in recruiting new players is how the players did after they left uaa.

looks like a list that was compiled a few weeks ago

Thanks JJ, it's always nice to see how our favorite (former) players are doing.

It takes more than a little time and effort to track all that information down. That's precisely the reason I haven't done it in the past. So I'm grateful JJ has come on board and is willing to tackle stuff like this.

Good job J.

Good job Jimjamesak.

JJ- Thanks for the great info on former Seawolf skaters. I'll bet Paul Crowder makes the Rangers starting lineup next season....

Don't count on it puckdangler! Crowder is a good player but has fallen out of favor with the Hartford/Rangers organization. Best thing would be to get signed by another team and start a new. Rangers don't develope talent, they buy it. Just like the Yankees. If they feel the need to have a new center next season they will go out and buy one.

puckdangler, if any former Seawolf in the AHL is gonna get a callup the best bet would be Beagle.

As for the list, it was done a week or so ago but I updated last night as best I could. Team/league websites in the lower leagues aren't updated as often.

Good job nabbing Westcott, most wouldn't.

Clarky is going in to his sixth game in the ahl, 2 goals in five games, picked 3rd star twice.
Plays in hamilton today, moose clinched fourth place in playoffs.
Playing second line now and power play. Glad to see beagle, lunden and crowder doing well. It is tough in hartford for crowder, usualy take 2 to three years to get called up. Beagle got two goals last nite. Lunden played his third game.
All the best to all the guys.

Why not mention Dustin Molle...

Why not mention Dustin Molle...

Molle didn't get a lot of playing time as a freshman when he was at UAA. Fact is, he didn't earn it.

When he transferred he did nothing but bad mouth Anchorage, so he doesn't deserve any respect here.

New Recruit from AJHL

Bad mouth Anchorage??? He got Royaly screwed by Shiak. Here was a guy that could not only played but he went to Fairbanks and proved to be the conerstone of there defense. Wake up, hes from Anchorge. I know he loves it here. Quite franky he is just one of many locals that hasnt had a good experience here and a Alumni is a Alumni. He was the cornerstone of a very good Fairbanks Defense and it makes you look real bad when A good player and person gets run over the bus and forced to leave. Its happened way to much here and is completly unaceptable and shouildnt be tolerated. I mean he helped lead them to the NCAA playoffs and was Anchorage. Completly tanked the second half as I recall. Bottom line is list him as Alumni who in the hell made you god.

What ever happened to Chris Tarkir?

By the time Molle played for UAF he was two years older. He left UAA after HALF A SEASON. I wouldn't say Shyiak screwed him, I'd say he expected way too much as a freshman and didn't work his way into the line up.

So he learned from his mistakes and did well as a SENIOR for Fairbanks. He should have had a good season by the time he was a senior. I saw all of his games at UAA and there were more talented defense than him, so he didn't get to play as much. Happens to a lot of freshmen, but most of them stick it out at least one season before they QUIT.

Im just saying so Molle leaves and Billy Smith Leaves Who turns out to be the Captain for Northern Michigan and then after the Curfew thing last year there complaining about a team that didnt have good leadership when they had Leadership but it was jetisoned. The point is just because Molle maybe didnt have the skill he was a heart and soul guy and absolute is an Alumni and probably had the right to be a little bitter. Its really not right to name Walsky and not Molle. Have you asked Walsky about his playing days here? What would he say. Please include Molle its the right thing to do.

Anonymous said...

Do the right thing? I would have left out Walsky, Molle, Westcott, Carbury, and any other guy that transfered out. Really no diss against those guys, but to really be an alumni you need to either graduate or play 3-4 years here. To me those guys aren't Seawolves, just guys who played here for a sec then transfered away. I bet if you ask those guys they wouldn't say they were alumni of UAA, they would say CC, UAF, SCSU, and some D-3 school. When Gorham and Warner finish playing here they won't say they were Ohio St. and Army alumni.

An Alumni is an Alumni. I guess we agree to disagree

UAAalumni09 said...

Rumor has it Christianson to Stockton Thunder

UAAalumni09 said...

So we should be expecting another recruit beside Kwas

Anonymous said...

No an Alumni is not an Alumni. If they transfer to another school and finish there, they are not a Alumni of the original school. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. And yes expect another recruit, most likely a goalie.

Billy Smith left because Hill left and he wanted to play with his brother. Happens a lot when coaching staff changes.

This alumni definition is a bit of a can of worms. I think there are a number of reasonable outlooks.

For myself, I think it would be anyone that didn't transfer to another school. The reasons guys transfer doesn't come into it for me. Most of what we think we know is rumor and guessing and supposition. And more importantly, I imagine anyone that transfered after one or two years most likely views themselves as an alum of the school where they finished their D1 careers and got a degree.

I like 4 year guys. But does that mean I don't think Paul Crowder is an alum? I think he is. Jay Beagle and Curtis Glencross are "lesser" alums shall we say? They were only here two years.

Sure, we can be proud of GlenX and Beags because they've both seen time in "the show". But are they really any different than say um ... Jeff Carlson? He was here two years and didn't transfer to another D1 school. Do we not follow him because he didn't advance his career but Curtis and Jay did? I doubt I'll follow Lee Baldwin much just like I didn't follow Gregg Naumenko. One year guys don't establish roots I guess.

Where you draw the line is kinda up to each and every person I guess. I think the criticism of JJ's choices is valid. But I also see the reasoning behind them. I approach it organically ... just by feeling ya know? I suspect JJ did as well.

If its in the Stockton newspaper, I can say that it is no longer a rumor, eh?

Bryce signed up as emergency backup

Very surprising. But then maybe Bryce and Jon will go on to have great "pro" careers in the ECHL. I wish them the best.

I know you all don't care for Woody but it's in this blog about Bryce. Just signed as an EBUG.

Duvie Westcott didn't play a full season at UAA, left for SCSU, and didn't have much good to say about the Seawolves. I don't consider him alumni.

Whether or not Dustin says anything good, or bad about UAA, I wouldn't consider him alumni, either.

I doubt many players who leave here for other places would exactly have a rosey opinion of the program, otherwise they would have stayed.
