Junior Mitch Bruijsten's Friday night hat-trick in Colorado Springs to lead the Seawolves to a 6-3 win earned him WCHA co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. Congratulations to Mitch on receiving the award. Here's most of the text from the league's announcement:
Bruijsten, a 6-4, 205-pound junior right winger from Nijmegen, Netherlands, posted his first collegiate three-goal hat trick (on just three shots) to help the Seawolves to a 6-3 WCHA road victory over No. 6-ranked Colorado College last Friday (Dec. 9) at Colorado Springs World Arena. With his team trailing 2-0, Bruijsten netted an unassisted shorthanded goal at 17:37 of the first period to close the gap to one and then tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play tally at 3:00 of the second. After CC regained the lead at 3-2, Alaska Anchorage rattled off four straight goals to secure their first win over a top 10-ranked team, with Bruijsten completing his hat trick with a man-advantage goal at 3:00 of the third period to earn No. 1 star of the game honors.

Nice work Mitch. Congratulations, UAA bringing it 2nd half…..bank it.
Hopefully someone will remember to tell him about the recognition when he gets back. He headed for the Netherlands for Christmas break the same night the team got back to Anchorage.
Merry Christmas everyone! :)
I think the Internet works over there ... even in Nether Land.
There's a new poll up at the goseawolves.com website.
Word on the street is that Zack Rall has backed out of his verbal commitment. Mickey Spencer has quit and there may be 2 ineligible players for the second semester. Not good news for the Seawolf hockey program.
Mickey was taken off of WCHA.com as well as goseawolves.com. Well there goes our streaky leading regular season goal scorer, shot taker, and our leader in penalty minutes. Sad tidbit, our leading career scorer is Curtis Leinweber with 43 points in 104 games played. Our leading goal scorer is Mitch Bruijsten with 16 career goals in 83 games played, one goal ahead of Curtis. Whoever else might be in academic trouble is bad news for us. Can we still rebound, sure. This will open up spots on Power Play and Penalty Kill. Time for some guys to take full advantage and seize the opportunity......Kinda of a meh day to be a Seawolf.
First McLeod quits and now Spencer? What the heck is going on????? Spencer got plenty of playing time, why would he leave half way through the season?
Heck, Tech had a worse season the last few years but their players weren't leaving left and right. Is it the coaching staff at UAA? What gives?
@ 8:47- Why are you blaming the coach?
Pull up his twitter feed if you think Mickey wants to leave. Hint: HE DOESN'T WANT TO!!
A lot of teams have had to deal with players who periodically stumble academically. It's not just UAA, so stop assuming that everyone is jumping ship because they're not.
It doesn't mean he has to leave UAA. It means he's not on the team right now. Maybe they'll be able to work something out for him so he can regain his eligibility? But if he does choose to leave, I sure wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Mickey's FB page also suggests he is (or wanted to be) back in Alaska after the break. Hopefully this can be worked out. He missed a lot of last season due to injury, I'd hate for him to miss the second half of this one when he had such a bright start.
For all you nay sayers, this program IS moving in the right direction! If you want to jump ship go for it. This coaching staff has done a great job of bringing in very talented players that keep their noses clean and want to be Seawolves. - Fan
I agree with you fan @838, i've seen more positive then negatives this season. This program is headed in the right direction. You all may not see it right now but shyiak is the best coach we have had since brush and you cannot argue that. btw folks, quit stalking the players, let them have there privacy.

Mickey is in Anchorage and plans on finishing school this semester, he left the team, it was not because of academics. Take that for what it is but one would think when you have two kids leave the team in the last two months something needs to be looked at.
Donald, are we going to see a preview of this weekends games?
9:33 AM
Spencer and who is the second kid that left?
McLeod left earlier in the first half of the season.
What bugs me is, if they didn't leave for academic issues, they are really letting down their teammates, and that really doesn't say much about them. Disappointing to say the least.
Apparently you are grossly misinformed. Next time you should go straight to the source and ask one of the players as to why they have left.
Either way, they are off the team before the season is over, either by choice or not. They basically let their teammates down. Move on and get some guys who are committed emotionally and scholastically.
I deleted the anonymous comment signed by JB as I consider it over the line (we don't really need to make disparaging comments about players girlfriends do we????).
Had I seen it yesterday I would have deleted it then.
Do you really think the intention was to let their teammates down? I doubt it!
It's sad to see Mickey go as I think he had the potential for a really great second semester with the Seawolves. Yes, it's natural to be inquisitive about why any player leaves mid-season (or any other time that is not at the natural end of their college career) but I think we should be respectful and just thank him for his contribution to the Seawolves rather than criticize him.
So thank you Mickey, I appreciate all you did for the Seawolves and I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
Well said and yes best of luck to Mickey I am sure the dedision for whatever reason wasn't an easy one.
We are NOT the only team in the league to lose players at midseason. Cam Reid & Mitch Macmillan just left ST. Cloud for the whl & und.
