Sunday Potpourri: The Fix Is In

The seemingly never-ending left-wing conspiracy is at it again folks. You better wake up and smell the coffee. Earlier in the week the Messiah Obama ordained by proclamation that Pittsburgh would win the Super Bowl. In his acceptance speech, Steeler own Rooney thanked Obama. Man oh man, the circle of liberal-mania continues! Look around ... it's not the only example.

Why else do you think UAA beat DU yesterday? Liberal conspiracy. DU is a school full of the fine children of hard working upper-class conservative republican businessmen who pay upwards of $40,000.00 a year for the priviledge. UAA is an open enrollment state school where thousands of students who otherwise wouldn't get a chance at higher education get their chance.

The march to socialism continues. Did you know that Pittsburgh once had the largest Union membership of any city in the U.S.? Arizona? Home of beloved conservative patriot John McCain. Union membership there is non-existent. Are we to be surprised that the NFL Referees Union saw a toe touch when one didn't actually touch? That these union members didn't see Kurt Warner's arm clearly moving forward on the next to the last play of the game? Of course they'd call it that way ... the liberal leftwing union socialist agenda demands it. And of course NBC didn't object. We all know what way that media outlet leans don't we? These people won't be happy until they've run this fine country into the dirt. That is exactly what they want to do you know? They want to ruin everything for everyone.

You saw what the liberal media did to Rod Blagoavich didn't you? He called it like it was saying, "The fix is in." ... and it is. That poor guy. And he's a democrat! What was he doing that was so different than any politician is doing? It's the left-wing media folks. They want to destroy our way of life.

Yes, the fix was in at DU. UAA players clearly had more energy and desire in the last 10 minutes of that game. The DU players looked like confused Hummel figurines. Hummel? You guessed it ... a union company. The tendrils of the vast commie-socialist machine have no bounds. Without vigilance against it we are doomed.

Next thing you know everyone in this country will have decent health care? WTF? Poor people don't need health care. They can just continue to use Emergency Rooms and just never pay the bill when it shows up. Is there something wrong with that system? Of course there isn't. But don't tell the socialists that. They're determined to bring that system down to it's knees. They want every institution that you and I cherish to bow to them. This destruction of our way of life can't continue. You know there's no more Bush Doctrine don't you? That's the thing that liberal tart Charlie CBS used to trip our dear Sarah. Now the socialists won't allow the U.S. to use preemptive unilateral force anywhere in the world we deem necessary? They hate freedom. That's the only answer.

So is the UAA team part of the vast socialist conspiracy. They must be ... look at the roster. Most of their players are from socialist Canada. They've got five players from Alaska which is the most subsidized state in the U.S. ... they even have a new kid from Commiefornia on the roster. All playing at a state funded school.

Well your coloum is sure boring after huge wins...The DU game really shut every body up huh. If you want to read some thing funny go to the Denver Post and check the Coaches comments... "We felt like declining the Powerplay"...Just beautiful Coach G....Concrats Boys

Maybe we think it was just a win.

Instead of the "huge" win that many others think. We know it doesn't mean much (except for as a lesson for the UAA team on how they need to play) if it isn't followed up with other WCHA points. Beating DU once isn't the end all and be all of success for the Seawolves.

And sometimes a blogger just doesn't feel like being conventional.

nice win for the boys though i understand coachs decision to bench our three top players. i dont agree with benching lunden on sat. hes got 4 goals in the second half and i think nils has one. we continue playing like this XCEL anyone? trevor hunt is on fire

I heard Nils was out with an injury of some sort, not benched. Don't know the details, sorry.

I agree about Lunden. There are other players I feel deserved the benching more. Clark is one, but he will be riding the pine this Friday night anyway.

Nobody would go to the Xcel with SeawolvesFan. I just don't wanna hear the virtues of the team drawn out over a 3 day period. ZZZ.

Who is going to the Final Five if they make it?

Nils had surgery on his elbow. I'm not sure how long he'll be out.

backstrom injuried is going to hurt our defense.

"We felt like declining the powerplay"? If Denver really wasnt worried about the Wolves he would have played his second-string tender....what a douche

Benching players never wins hockey games, teamwork wins hockey games, clark, lunden, grant and crowder.
They have contributed more points in 2 to three years than any past players. They all come from winning teams in Junior A. They play to win, if they get penalties it is because they want to win at any cost. We have 8 wcha games left, we must win 4 or more to secure a 7th or 8th spot in the standings.
With the win over Denver, let's see the fans in achorage fill the building for the St. Cloud series.

These guys are indeed contributors, but Clark, Crowder, and Grant are also in the penalty box more often. You can't score when you're in the sin bin.

Many of these are stupid, undiciplined penalties as well. Clean it up, UAA does much better 5 on 5, so let's keep the other teams off the power play.

Sometimes setting players motivate the rest of the team. But I also feel the intensity of what I call the grind line has been missing. These are the players that often go unnoticed because their not putting the puck in the net. But are the ones who get into the heads of their opponent. Great!!! effort on Saturaday night by all. You guys earned the WIN. Start shutting the puck more, cuz you never know what's going to end up in back of the net.

Heard Rob Haider was last week's NAHL West player of the week and is leading the Avs resurgence (5 straight wins). Hope UAA is talking to him, as well as Rappuzzi. Gotta have some local kids as the Wolves continue to improve. Anyone know the local stuff on recruiting?

Donald Dunlop said...

UAA is spectacularly free of leaked information regarding recruiting. They definitely act to the letter of NCAA law which says that a school may say nothing about a player until that player has signed an LOI.

The best I can say is that any local player worthy of such has been contacted. It's impossible to say whether or not any particular player has been offered but I know local players are important to the program. In some cases UAA isn't going to get a sniff of a kid for a lot of reasons we've discussed many many times here.

The Rumor is Rappuzzi has Bowling Green and a couple of other choices happining.. Wamsganz and Rall supposedly got offers from UAA but have decided there going straight to the New York Rangers.
Nobodys seen the UAA Coaches around the Loaded 16AAA Allstar team but several are on their Radar as the team is Nationally Ranked and has as many as 5 or 6 for sure D 1 players..One player on that team (COOPER) is almost a lock to play on the National Team and several USHL teams are drooling over him as well..The rumor is the Duwe and Christianson kid have been offered spots on Kenai for next year and the Avalanche have been seen at the Local Highschool games and have several on the Radar potentially.. The Avalanche are the most aggressive team in the State in regards to trying to retain Alaskans with several of the High School Studs such as Bailey,Wright,Luiten,Shierhorn,Strahle and the Older Cooper as top prospects...UAA I believe is mostly looking for 19 and 20 yr olds right away to come in and make an immediate impact on the team and Have two Super Recruits on Defense in the Baldwin and McCloud Kids out of the BCHL..My guess is they are looking for at least 2 scorers that could step in and score 7 Goals or more as Rookies but they are extremly tough to find. All the Coaches were extremely active in the Summer as Camble and Damon were regulars at the Subway Sports Center Centre during the SEHL which is a whos who of the top local prospects. Other top players playing out side are Thompson and Stenjehem at Belle Tire 18AAA who will play Junior A next year and probably Coles,Wichorek,Treptow,Trupp,Van Allen and Vrem have outside shots at making a junior A team next year but are prospects. Two players in the USHL Summerhays and Thompson are Goalies with Rumors flying that Thompson may be going to Colorado College.Summerhays is at least one maybe 2 years away from Major College Hockey but needs to prove himself at the Tier 1 Level. Lauers the big defenseman from Dimond could end up at the Airforce Acadamey as they have been in contact with him. Thats a stab at the local Scene and I was kidding earlier about Wamsganz and Rall there great kids and top prospects..

The last thing I'd like to see on the Seawolves is some local primadonna.

So I'd tell each and every kid playing hockey in Anchorage that if he thinks he is too good for UAA then go find greener pastures. We don't want you.

A "super" elite player will come along who has always dreamt of playing for UAA. He'll break the barrier and others will follow.

And if that doesn't happen then the UAA players from BC, Alberta, California, or wherever will happily beat your ass when you come here to play against them.

Some kids think A)They want to leave State because they have been here their whole life and want to see other parts of the Country or B)they dont understand how good you have to be to tear up a Junior League to get any Scholarship.C)Unrealistic Goals due to the lack of knowledgeable advisor (Parent)or other..D)Strenth of other programs including Facilitys,Atmosphere,School,Location,ect...E)Time... I think for now we have 5 alaskans contributing and if all can finish with a positive experience and relate to the younger elite players a positive experience than you will see more and more want to stay and play in front of friends and Family. This has been a pretty succesful year so far compared to the past and one of the most important things that has to happen is for those 5 guys to become part of the Alumni and help build the program because the other 20 plus will be gone. The testemonials of the Alaskans drawing on a positive experience win or lose, playing time or no playing time will do the recruiting for the Coaching staff and is just another small thing that adds up to a big thing in the long run. Anchorage is Smallville and its great to see all 5 of the current guys contributing and being given the Chance and opportunity here to do it

Some players who have left/not chosen UAA don't always have it quite as easy at another colleges.

Look at the CC goalie Conneley, he has played very little - while I bet if he had played for UAA, he would at least be playing a regular rotation.

Face it, UAA gives players much more of a chance to showcase their abilities, and certainly get noticed because of the league they are in. Several UAA players have gone on to the pros. Some have even gotten million dollar bonus's to leave early.

The grass is not always greener. And unfortunately, some learn that the hard way. Fournier and Bales come to mind as well. There is something to be said for playing in front of family and friends.
