Mellor Tapped For 2010 Canada West Jr. A Camp

2011 Seawolves recruit Sam Mellor has been named to attend the 41 player Team Canada West evaluation camp on September 27th and 28th in preparation for the 2010 World Junior A Challenge.  The Junior A Challenge takes place from November 8th through the 14th and is hosted each year by Hockey Canada to showcase junior A talent from around the world.

Along with Canada West are teams from Canada East, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden and the United States.  Current UAA defenseman Wes McLeod took part in last years tournament and was named to the 6 member All-Tournament team.

This year's tournament will be held in Penticton B.C. which is also the venue for the evaluation camp.  Good luck to Sam in making the final roster.  17 year-old Mellor is in his 2nd year of Junior A with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL and is currently tied for 2nd league-wide with 6 goals in 5 games.  The Smoke Eaters are on the road today facing Surrey and play Langley on Thursday.

Congrats Sam! I caught a good chunk of the practice yesterday and if Grant isn't Captain I'd be very suprised. Sean Wiles is officaly the team goofball. Rob Gunderson continues to be the all-around goalie. And, Curtis Leinweber remindes me a lot of Curtis Glencross who has selective skating. Some call it laziness, or a bad hockey sense, but hey it worked for Glencross so who am I to judge? Also, Leinweber suited as a D yesterday . . .

Speaking of Canada... Do they drink milk out of a bag all over Canada or just in the east?

I think most people (even Canadians) drink Milk out of whatever glass they pour it into.

Canadians - hockey players aside - should not be considered "people" - you should know that by now...

Americans--what sums them up? Don't ask don't tell. (And where is 56% not a majority? Only in America, eh?) One thing we have in common though, go Seawolves go.

Well no suprise here . . . wait a second, look at the last selection . . . !

Anon@7:25,
Americans joking about any other country on any subject is the pinnacle of irony. I mean for fucks sake, they venerate Sarah Palin and vote for morons like Joe Miller and Christine O'Donnell. Honestly, if my life were a bit different than what it actually is .... I'd move to Canada in a heartbeat.

ASF,
I've berated Chris Dilks (WCH's "author") for a number of different reasons over the years in multiple venues. It's only human nature for him to take those things personally, because frankly ... I meant them personally.

That would be the reason you never see him cover a Seawolves story.

And to be fair to him, nobody else is going to pick this years Seawolves team higher than 11th. When was the last time any of these useless preseason polls picked our boys above 9th in a 10 team league.

And yes ... we've sure finished 9th more than a few times over the last few years.

Anyway, I find it best to ignore pretty much anything Dilks has to say about anything.

Donald: Since we're bored enough to be talking politics (play a game, please!), Canada at the moment is being governed by a bunch of wannabe Republicans. Prime Minister Steven Harper and his merry band of rural knuckle-dragging Conservatives looked to the NRA for inspiration in trying to scrap our long-gun registration. They failed. They sent our Prince of Pot stateside at the behest of outgoing war criminal (hope I’m not being too harsh) George Bush. A Seattle judge just gave Marc Emery five years. Five years. For mailing seeds to reality weary Americans. We’ve got our own problems, but hey, come on down. We’ll find you sanctuary in a church like some of your conscientious objectors already here.

For those of you who want to live in a Socialist country, move to one. Leave my country alone. Thank You.

Go Canada! That's enough Canadian bashing already. Milk in bags? Those trully are fighting words. You have Sarah Palin. We don't. We win.

If there is any subject where my vast hockey knowledge is exceeded it is US history. Please don't make me give a recitation of the last 50 years of neo-facism that has led this country to where it is today.

Free the political prisoner Marc Emery!!! That gentle soul never hurt anyone.

This is the last political comment that will be allowed in this string of comments. Thank you.

Just another note about Mellor. He scored twice tonight and picked up an assist against Langley and now has 8 goals and 5 assists in 7 games and sits in 3rd place on the overall scoring table.

Did I mention he doesn't turn 18 until November? Man oh man ... he's gonna be a special player methinks. It will be interesting to see what happens with him in the next NHL draft.

Bill,
Look forward to seeing you (and everyone else) soon at the rink!

D i know, i know. And, actually I was referencing our boy Rob Gunderson being "selected" to be the Rookie Goalie of the year.(prolly after mentioning to Chris that UAA gave up the 4th least amount of shots on goal in conference play last season) Curtis Leinweber again suited up as a D, him and Grant are the most consistent in putting the puck in the net.

I really like Justin Kirchhevel. He reminds me a LOT of Steve Cygan, hands down my favorite Seawolf of all time. I don't wanna overhype him; but he skates good, postionly sound on defense, and even looks like Cygan in his cage.

Oh sorry ASF -- I hadn't seen that.
