Seawolves 6 - Cutthroat Trout 3

There is a difference between not scoring and not being able to score.  The Seawolves showed tonight that they are able to score.  And doing it should help erase the idea from their minds that they are not able to score.

They've shown excellent offensive tendencies in the first four games of the season scoring 4+ goals a game.  Had tough streak for the next 8 games scoring only 7 goals during that stretch.  And now in the last 5 games they've come close again to the 4 goals per game mark with 19 goals.

This team CAN score.  Nuff said.  Hopefully tonight's result builds some confidence amongst our boys.  From Kurt's always excellent call it seemed that CC imploded and the Seawolves took advantage.  Congrats to Mitch Bruijsten on his hat-trick with the first coming shorthanded.  Nice.

Don't expect CC to piss down their leg again tomorrow night.

Note: I'm mired deep in a cold right now folks.  I haven't had a cold like this for quite a few years so I'm keeping this short.  I'll have a post on new recruit Austin Sevalrud as soon as I can get to it.

Hope you feel better soon Donald. Scotch does wonders for a sore throat. ;)

Unfortunately for me, I have to catch up on undone work so I'll pass (for now) on any whiskey.

Donald,

FYI - the greenback cutthroat is or was a threatened species. I guess it's not as smart or something as other non-native trout that were introduced to Colorado streams and rivers back in the day so the cutthroat has a hard time surviving. I'm not sure why, but it seems like rainbow trout and brown trout are just better at life... For these reasons, it's a bad choice for mascot. If anyone ever comes to Colorado and wants to catch some, let me know. I have a spot. It's at like 12,500 ft but it’s a beautiful hike. Like I said, they are kind of dumb so they are pretty easy to catch.

Get better soon, Donald. Maybe another Seawolf win tomorrow night will be just what the doctor ordered? And yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with your point about not scoring and not being able to score. The Seawolves have shown time and time again that they have the capacity and skill to score, but the anti-puck luck gremlins are often there to do their work. Tonight was no such night.

So reports seem to be pretty thin but has seen anything on Schwartz's slewfoot penalty? Obviously it happened as it got called (and the scrum that happened after it gives evidence that the Seawolves thought it was a slewfoot), but to see a pic or video of what happened would be nice.

For the uninitiated, a slewfoot is the act of kicking another players legs out from underneath them. It's one of the dirtiest plays in hockey. I commend Brad Gorham for showing some control and not beating the snot out of Schwartz and taking the DQ. Also good job by the referees for a) calling that penalty and b) preventing a brawl that surely could've resulted from it.

If slew-footing is so dirty, that should have resulted in a game DQ, IMO. Also, the hit on Docken resulted in him not playing in the 3rd period. I hope he doesn't have a concussion or strained neck. Sounds like a hit to the head like that also could have been assessed a DQ.

Slew footing is very dirty Suze. It's a quick way to get your ass kicked. Why is wasn't a DQ only the referee knows. I haven't seen any video which why I'm curious as to what happened. Certainly if it was an obvious slew foot Schwartz deserves a suspension.

It was such a joy to listen to the game last night. It seems like the younger players are getting to feel more comfortable on the ice and with playing with each other. We need the older players to stay role models for the younger guys.
CC's coach was very mad after the game at his team and I'm sure they will come out with vengeance. Seawolves, please come out the same way. Good luck.

Unfortunately, neither one will be playing tonight.

And would you be speaking of the Schwartz brothers?

I was ruminating this morning about last nights win and I was thinking about how much more important winning last night's game was compared to some of the earlier games we've had thus far.

I say this because:

1). It was a highly ranked opponent.
2). It was on very hostile ice.
3). They just didn't win, they freaking dominated.

Sure, we all know every WCHA point is precious, but I think the win last night (and hopefully tonight) was one that showed our guys that they have the skill and the talent to still get home ice and possibly more. Like many others have said (and at the risk of sounding redundant), nothing remedies a tendency of losing more than a winning a very critical game.

Game on, CC. We're coming for ya! :)

Exactly Alaskana! Look at the Sioux, they started the season very poorly and were just a couple points ahead of us. A few solid series and they are back in the top half of the standings.

Go Wolves!!

Not trying to poach users from this site, just thought I'd put up an additional option from the sidebar. :)

That chat room is totally negative...don't waste your time

Guests were simply airing their grievances and frusterations. Positivity is a good thing, but there is nothing wrong with people speaking freely either. Sorry you were offended but people seem to be enjoying that chat. Thanks for stopping by anyways.

AlaskaAl said...

Not offended, just want to talk the game. Not really into a bunch of BS where folks aren't willing to discuss their grievances face to face with the person they're dissing.

Alaskana said...

Fair enough. And I agree sometimes some people want to hear more about the game and less about the politics. At least we can have some solidarity in both being Seawolves fans.

How do you know they haven't AlaskaAl?

As much as I wanted a sweep, we still split with the #6 team in the country. We outscored them this weekend, no doubt this weekend should be a confidence booster before the action starts again. Heal up boys and come back hungry, you can still make something from this season.

Suze said...

Considering how short handed the team was, I am very proud of their effort this weekend. Please enjoy your family during your Christmas break, Seawolves, and get healthy (and stay healthy!).

With a full line up this team can get a lot of wins in the second half of the season.

Word on the street is Zack Rall has backed out of his verbal commitment and also Mickey Spencer has quit the team. In addition, 2 prominent players may be ineligible.
