Seawolves: Alabama Bound

If the team has been as inactive as this blog over the holidays then it could be seriously bad news for our guys in Huntsville this weekend. Don't think for a moment that this Chargers team isn't capable of some WCHA points against UAA this weekend. Cos they are. Let's hope that the Seawolf players relaxed and recreated over the holidays but stayed competitively focused.

There'll be no rest in Huntsville this weekend; instead there's a hungry hockey team opening the second half of their season in their barn. One-time UAA Head Coaching applicant and now UAH Head Coach Mike Corbett comes from a program who's successes always came as a result of a non-stop work ethic on the ice. And you can guarantee the Chargers will be ready to put forth that exact sort of effort this weekend.

I'm not sure that there's any particularly good news for the Seawolves which might give us some indication as to which team we should expect to see.  Will it be the one that played as a team early in the year or will it be the one that didn't play as a team and had some locker room finger-pointing; let's hope it's the first because the latter team played like crap and the results showed.

The 'Wolves have played 16 games; not quite half. In October, they went 5-1-2. That wasn't just respectable, it was terrific. Then in November/December, they went 1-6-2. That's terrific too; terrifically embarrassing. The last three games of the first half might as well have been the first three games of the season because essentially the Seawolves started over on Saturday night of the Northern Michigan weekend at the Sully.

Painting the rosiest possible picture one can say that UAA is unbeaten in their last three. But the two ties with Bemidji after the Saturday win against NMU were really lost points. Sure, UAA got two points out of the weekend. But it's the two points that they didn't get which are painful. Those aren't the only "lost points"  of the season though.

Out of a possible 20 WCHA points ... UAA has 6 (there are 36 points available through the end of the season). There's a wee bit of good news as the Seawolves have 2 and 4 games in hand versus 7 of the 9 other teams. Not getting 4 points this weekend against Huntsville would hurt. This is a chance to gain some ground on teams ahead of us in the standings; which by the way is 7 other teams as we sit tied for 8th with only Huntsville trailing. "Must win" is the only characterization that is appropriate. Everybody needs to turn up ready to bust their arse and then needs to bust their arse.

The weather today in Huntsville is pretty similar to Anchorage's weather right now. It'll be a bit colder here by the weekend and a bit warmer there. Here's to hoping that our guys turn up the temperature in the Von Braun center.

The video I embedded is the Hamburg Freezer's pregame festivities. Holy excrement. Watch it. Trust me. Kevin Clark is pwning that league at the moment with 38 points (15 goals and 23 assists) in 25 games; and yes ... he's amongst the league leaders in penalty minutes.

Seriously awesome video, thanks for posting it DD! Great to see Clarky doing so well.

As for UAA, this is a must sweep series! I hope the guys start the second half of the season with the gusto they started the first half with.
