Nick Haddad to UAA

Fairbanks Ice Dog's forward Nick Haddad (6'2" 210; 20 yr old) has committed to UAA for next season. Details are available in this Fairbanks Daily News Miner article. In 50 games so far this year Nick has 25 goals and 31 assists which better than doubles his output from the 05-06 season. Those numbers put him in a 9th place tie for points in the NAHL. Nick looks like another solid addition as a power forward.

On a related note the NAHL announced today that they're adding a franchise in Soldotna next season (Brown Bears) to bring the number of Alaska teams to 3. Will they be joining the "South" division with FBX and Wasilla?

Thanks! I wish I had known this last Friday when I watched Wasilla and Fairbanks play. Hopefully I can catch another game this year, we still have two tickets for the Av's games.

Did anyone tell the UAA coaching staff that the NAJHL is a horrible league to be taking the majority of your recruits from?

UAA gets their recruits from the BCHL, AJHL and the NAHL. The Gophs get theirs from the USA under 18's, the USHL and the elite from HS in Minnesota. So there is always going to be a discrepancy in talent. We get what we can get and since the elite Alaskans don't want to be Seawolves, we get the guys who are leftover from wherever we can get them.

I would hardly call Josh Lunden, Paul Crowder, and Kevin Clark "leftovers". Shyiak is getting some good recruits over here, and it will continue to get better. The BCHL and the AJHL aren't are actually pretty good leagues that produce great talent

anon @ 10:40. I guess you better inform veteran coaches around Division I hockey that the NAHL doesn't have any good players. Not.

Coaches Berenson, Comley, Kyle, Markell, Culhane, Jutting, and Sandelin (among others) all have recruits from the NAHL for next year.

You must be one of those mad UAF fans who lost out on Haddad.

McCabe plays in the NAHL, but he is getting attention from the NHL right now. That should speak for itself.
