Send Me To Hell

Well not exactly to Hell; how about St. Paul, Minnesota. So what's this all about? In a College Hockey Blog first I've placed a PayPal Donation button in my sidebar. Specifically, I've created a fund to gather the necessary financing for a trip to Minnapolis/St. Paul from on or about Mar 19th to Mar 23rd, 2008 for the WCHA Final Five. I'm asking for donations in the hope it can fully fund (airfaire, lodging, tickets and food) this trip; frankly my personal budget in no way could include such a trip. In return all my fine readers will get to read extensively about the trip. As a potential donor you should be assured that your funds won't go to waste. In furtherence of that effort here is a list of my pledges:
I will provide status of any donation to it's contributor immediately upon request.
I will provide an overview of the fundraising regularly.
Funds donated will be used for all activities normally associated with such a trip.
A full post-Final Five accounting will be posted on the blog.
Donations with strings (i.e... meet me at section 100 seat #2) are happily accepted.
I will post game reports and observations from the road as internet connections allow.
The donated funds will not be used for anything other than the trip as defined.
If (for any reason) the trip does not happen then all funds will be immediately returned to the donor(s).
If you've read this and decided to fall prey to my begging then there is nothing left for me to do but give my deeply felt thanks and appreciation (kiss your incredibly kind ass for perpetuity). Some brief calculating suggests that an initial goal of raising about $800 by February 20th, 2008 is reasonable and so I'll make the go/nogo call on that date.

I have two questions.

Are you planning on staying at a four**** hotel or a ***1/2 hotel? lol jk

Anonymous said...

That was only one question.

Question number two. Why not just take the "Alcan" sp? lol jk

Donald Dunlop said...

Current Airfare = $578
Hotel in St. Paul = $55 a night (3 nights)
Food = $20 a day (4 days)
Tickets = $50

Total = $873

The 3175 mile "Road To Hell" paved with $3+/gallon gas @ 3 days of 16hr/day driving totalling about $500 in gas (each way).

I'm planning on going to the final 5 too. I'm using my pfd though :)

My PFD's are going str8 into a college fund for my 14 year old so that she can pay for me to go to the 2015 Final Five.

"The 3175 mile "Road To Hell" paved with $3+/gallon gas @ 3 days of 16hr/day driving totalling about $500 in gas (each way)."

Its more like $4+ a gallon. Roughly four gallons per liter, over a dollar a liter...since most of the trip is through Canada.

I took this route when I moved down to Montana and it cost me almost a grand. That's pretty much all gas; ate out of the cooler, slept in the car at truck stops, etc.

DC said...

What's a liter?

Donald, would you go whether or not UAA makes it? Or would you save the money for a time when the Seawolves would be there?

Donald Dunlop said...

I'll go whether or not UAA makes the Final Five.

DC said...

As a donor, I'd say I would prefer you to wait until UAA went. I'd hate for you to come all that way, only for them to make it the following year.

It's not as much fun without your team there.

I own you.

Donald Dunlop said...

You think I should wait if they don't make it?

I don't know if that would be fair to other donor's expectations. I guess I just felt like I should provide some bang for the buck (whatever "bang" there is in reading about someone else's roadtrip) in proximity to their kind giving.

I think I should count on going as stated.

Would you come to the tailgate and insult/fight UVE, Rabib and the rest of the SCSU Tard Boy Crew? Cause that would be awesome entertainment for all.

Dirty:
From my list of pledges:

"Donations with strings (i.e... meet me at section 100 seat #2) are happily accepted."

I figured you'd do it for your own enjoyment. Irritating the SCSU gumbas seems to be a hobby of yours.

Donald Dunlop said...

When they stand around jumping up and down screaming "shoot me, shoot me" at the top of their lungs there's really little choice but to light 'em up.

dggoddard said...

You should be able to get a Press Pass from the WCHA. Does that count as a $50 donation from me?

I'm kicking in 20 bucks so long as you write one negative article about UND and/or CC.

Eric J. Burton said...

I think the shocker would be if he wrote a possitive blog article about UND :)

Donald Dunlop said...

DG:
Thank you for your donation. I planned on sending a request to the Final Five people as I remember that Chris from WCH was "comped" or whatever you'd call it.

Goon:
Um ... I looked. And you're mostly right. Though I have said a nice thing or two or three about UND there isn't anything I'd classify as "positive about UND".

Jeff said...

since i'm probably going to work at the northern light at uaa this school year, maybe i can get them to fly me down to do a big story. That would be so tite

Anonymous said...

Good luck getting there. I'll be sure to send you a few bucks when I get a chance.

Wait... so you will take bribes? I can give you some money and you will do me favors? Right on! $20 going your way then... and remember, I'm a poor college student!

Donald Dunlop said...

What sort of beggar would I be if I didn't offer some sort of return to the exceptionally kind people that donate.

Doubtless, I would have done a favor for you sweetie even without a donation.

Jimjamesak said...

Is it possible to add to the amount needed to be raised? I mean I'd like to go too.

Or am I gonna use my PFD on something other than useless crap like food, rent, and water?

Donald Dunlop said...

JJ:
Lets just see how the whole thing goes I guess. Maybe I should have called it "Send an as yet unspecified UAA fan (or fans) to Hell".

Who knows maybe between now and February 20th, 2008 there'll be some crazy windfall of rich Gopher fans that are dying to beat me (or me and you) to a bloody pulp and back that up with fundage.

It could happen.

MeanEgirl said...

What do the Gopher fans have against you? I thought it was the SCSU fans... ?

And I figure I owe ya anyway. My visit to Anchorage probably set you back a bit... with all those drinks you bought me and all. :) If I win the lottery between now and Feb, I'll send you AND J's to the Final Five.

Donald Dunlop said...

You don't remember "Robot-Hockey" or my most excellent proof that Alaska produced more D-1 players (as a percentage of population) than Minnesota?

There is also their lies about what I said during the gophers drinking scandal and the Hill return. Geez ... the amount of shit I've heaped upon them is actually difficult to fully recall. Some of it actual and some (probably more) perceived.

A few years ago when I was hoping to go to the Final Five I even started a poll on USCHO that asked "Where will you beat DTP up?" with choices like ...

In the aiport concourse ..
In the cab from the airport ...
In his hotel lobby ...
At his FF seat ...
In the bar ...

well .... you get the idea.

Jimjamesak said...

Well I suppose I could always start a new thread like that.

If you can't afford to pony up your own dough to go, too damn bad.

Donald Dunlop said...

Anon @ 12:12 from Fargo ND:

You're a class act.

Anonymous said...

I've got more class and more self respect than you do, as I don't feel the need to beg to go to a hockey tournament.
What's the matter, are the caribou demanding to keep more of the money when you pimp them out?
Dirty thinks it'd be funny to watch you "argue" with us live? Won't happen as I wouldn't go near that tailgate "party" even if I was paid. I get enough of an asshole fix watching what my fiance has to put up with on USCHO.
Rabid

Dirty said...

Don't be such a weenie. You know you want to meet DTP. I bet he'd even bring you some dried walrus meat or something cause he's a swell guy like that.

Also no one would donate money for you to come. They might however donate money for you to stay away. Maybe you should try that.

LetsGoMavs said...

I suggest leaving JJ at home, since he ripped MN about the "state of hockey" name. It's quite possible some crazed fan will rip off his arms, beat him with them, and then throw them under the zamboni!! :)

Good luck on the fundraising. Under your section of answers on my blog I encouraged people to donate to your cause...not sure it'll help though!

MeanEgirl said...

LGM: JJ's Minnesota rant was awesome. Minnesotians are just insecure. JJ should DEFINITELY come.

Also... YOU should donate to DTP's cause. =P

I think he's a genius for thinking of this. Although, it seems to have slowed down a bit. Why don't you threaten to kill a bunny if you don't get enough money, DTP? ...Or maybe even club a baby seal. That might be more easily accessible for you.

Donald Dunlop said...

MeG:
There's 255 days until the February 20th cutoff. I'm not particularly interested in doing any marketing. Donating to charity (or to a beggar in this case) is something best left to donor and anything above and beyond the original request seems "inorganic" to me.

If DG had asked prior to starting the USCHO thread I would have asked him not to do so. USCHOers contributing honestly never crossed my mind.

If my regular readers among the UAA fanbase don't feel like contributing, I'm all good with that. It just means that what I provide here doesn't have that sort of value to them. Again, I'd be all good with that.

Note that I'm not saying I'm not appreciative of the thoughts and actions in that regard. And I suppose if I'd been the first person on the "Internets" to beg then I'd be a genius. But I'm just riding on the coattails of those who came before me.

So in Summary:
Be patient. If it happens ... great. If not ... oh well. Who knows ... maybe I'll manage it on my own anyway.

DC said...

I'm sure that if enough money was raised to at least make the trip inexpensive, you could probably kick in some of your own loot. And, like I said, you are welcome to stay at Chez RWD.

If I was Rabid Husky, I'd a.) kill myself IMMEDIATELY and b.) put it in my will that money be donated to Donald's cause, if I wanted to be a "gentleman." If I was Rabid Husky and I wanted to be a jerk I'd a.) change nothing about my life and b.) donate $0.01 or something.

THANK GOD I AM RWD, is all I have to say.

Donald Dunlop said...

RWD:
We're all happy that you are you.

Nice, advocating suicide because you don't like someone you've never met. That's real classy.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't send this guy money if I shit 20 dollar bills.

Donald Dunlop said...

But you would visit my blog 8 times in the last 24 hours. Obsessed much?

Dirty said...

And I'm supposed to believe that DTP meeting UVE/Rabib/Some other random SCSU clod wouldn't be the greatest entertainment ever? This is some funny stuff.

DC said...

I have never proclaimed myself to be anything other than a dirty, rotten, bitter old hag. So, I'm cool with being "not classy." I stand by my recommendations.

i figure what the hell ... but the link to donate just sends me to paypal - what do i do once there? what's your account - just your e-mail address? :p

It's called sitemeter.com ... for the 24 hours I mentioned you visited @:

2:59pm
5:29pm
6:08pm

Oops that's 24 hours and 2 minutes. I guess I was wrong.

Yes it is just my email address. I'm supposed to call PayPal today to find out why it doesn't go to a donation page; I spelled out the issue carefully in an email but they gave me a number to call instead. Hopefully I'll have that fixed in the next day or so.

Donald Dunlop said...

The PayPal button now leads directly to the uaafanblog donation page instead of the PayPal main page.

We may not be raising much money but at least we've creating some traffic and meaningless debate to get us through the summer.

dg

Donald Dunlop said...

DG:
LOL it certainly decrease the summer boredom factor .. but the "all-important" traffic is not as meaningful to me. I could double traffic just by using Google images in each post but developing regular readership more organically is what's important to me.

Dirty said...

Way to be all grassroots and not post pictures. You're like the 100% All-Natural Granola at the grocery store that costs twice as much and has half the taste. It makes me fall all warm and fuzzy inside.

Donald Dunlop said...

Dirty:
Posting pictures that are found on Google creates future hits on your blog from other people on the "Internets" who search Google images. That's all my "organic" reference meant. But it is a tip you can use on your newly created blog to attract hits from all over the world.

DC said...

I used a picture of Fluffy the 3-headed dog from Harry Potter once, ONCE, YEARS AGO, and I still get a bunch of hits from it. Ugggh.

I also get hits from searches like "Naked TJ Oshie" or something.

Dirty said...

Those are NOT my searches. Just throwing that out there before I get accused.

dggoddard said...

So who donated the $20 bucks yesterday. I need to update the standings on USCHO.com

Dirty said...

I was just wondering what's the status on the Dirt on UND entry? The one you were talking about during the whole Jason Gregoire fiasco. I'm hoping you still plan on writing it because it would be awesome, irritating scores of fans and there's nothing better than that.

Donald Dunlop said...

Dirty:
As time permits. Unfortunately, in order to be fair to UND, I'll have to do some background research on not only UND but also Minn and Bucky (maybe others as well) for comparison purposes. Plowing through several years of starting and ending rosters and making notes isn't exactly my favorite activity.

Alright Donald, you have another contribution from a DU fan. I rather enjoyed hanging out with you when I traveled to Anchorage with Gilligan. Good luck on getting the rest of the trip funded!

Thanks very much! Will you be going to the St. Paul next year?

Donald:

I'll be taking a WCHA road trip this year, but the destination has yet to be determined. Perhaps I'll see you out at the Final Five.
