BCHL D-Man Lee Baldwin Commits To Seawolves

Chris Heisenberg reports today that 20 year-old Victoria Grizzlies left-handed defenseman Lee Baldwin (6'3" 210lbs) has committed to the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves for the 2009-2010 season.

Baldwin is a big talented puck moving defenseman known to punish opponents in his own zone. In a preseason profile Victoria News writer Travis Paterson compared his style of play favorably to Rob Blake noting that Victoria brought Baldwin in to solidify their transition game.

Baldwin played the last two seasons with the Burnaby Express and was traded during the offseason for three Grizzlies players. In 94 games with Burnaby over two seasons Lee had 7 goals and 33 assists and a miniscule 40 penalty minutes. In 17 games this season he has 3 goals and 12 assists for a .9 point/game average.

This is Lee's sixth year of Junior hockey as he played 3 years at Jr. B Saanich before moving up to the BCHL. He's been on the ice since he was 6 years old. This year he is wearing #77 for Victoria. The Grizzlies are 2 points behind Island Division leader Nanaimo in the BCHL's Coasal Conference with a 13-7 win/loss record. Victoria hosts this seasons RBC Cup on May 2nd through the 10th.

Is there an age rule, where you begin to lose eligibility if you are playing in juniors past your 21st birthday? I seem to remember that controversy coming up in regards to Bryce. If so does anyone know how the season's playoffs going past his birthday will affect it.

Sounds like a good guy to bring in. I am all about going small and fast on the big ice up here but if the guy is big and can skate then I am definitely on board. He should bring maturity and be able to step in quicker because of his age and extra years. Look forward to seeing him (that is if I am still in AK next year).

I BELIEVE THERE ARE SPECIAL RULES AND IM SURE THE STAFF IS WELL AWARE TO KEEP ON TOP OF THIS BECAUSE OF PLAYERS LIKE AIKEN AND OTHERS WHO ALL OF A SUDDEN ARNT COMING DUE TO THE INCREDIBLE COMPLICATED NCAA RULES FOR OVERAGES AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CLEARING HOUSE THAT CAN HAPPEN

Hopefully Aiken will be able to come at the break. As far as the two recruits Donald has listed, they sound solid. Matt Robinson is leaving big shoes to fill, and will be sorely missed next year.

I've watched Lee progress over the years! The Seawolves are getting a class act. That looks to be four skaters from Victoria, BC, lacing 'em up for the Seawolves.

Thats Great about Lee he is joining what I believe is an up and coming Program and will get every opportunity to show how he will fit in the best College Hockey League in America the WCHA which is about 3 steps quicker than the BCHL..
