UAA Hockey Fan Blog "pwnd" USCHO

The United States College Hockey Online fan forum is often thought to be the premier Internet outlet for college hockey fans to express themselves regarding their favorite teams. Each week of the season fans start threads for each weekly series and have their say. This week though the UAA Hockey Fan Blog 'completely and utterly outclassed the competition' (<--- the definition for "pwnd") with substantially more discussion regarding the series than USCHO. While much of the discussion here wasn't actually about hockey don't assume that the discussion on USCHO was either. Here are the numbers as of this writing:
UAA Fan Blog:
4 posts (comparable to a thread)
1694 views
estimated word count greater than 8000

USCHO Fan Forum:
1 thread
62 comments
1170 views
estimated word count less than 2500
While these numbers don't mean that USCHO is irrelevant (um ... yet) they do indicate a trending away from the only traditional outlet on the World Wide Web. The UAA Fan blog has a liberal policy toward commenters in comparison to USCHO which dictates that only politically correct comments are allowed. Go there and threaten someone with physical harm and you won't be allowed back. Come here and threaten someone with physical harm and there are zero consequences. There are no language restrictions here. On USCHO you can't say "ass" which is a word you'll hear on Prime Time network TV every night of the week. Anonymous comments on USCHO? Not allowed, membership/registration required. Anonymous comments here are the norm. Advertising exists on every page at USCHO and will often cause pages to load slowly. There is no advertising here and I've removed any widgets that could cause slow loading.

Thanks to all the commenters here; both irrational (i.e... 90% of UND fans) and excellent (100% of UAA fans). Feel free to repost this entire piece anywhere you choose.

If the flickertails lose this weekend the "fire the coach” thread will be the first post in uscho forum when the library opens and the computer is up and running.

You make up that 10% of irrational UAA fans with your undying belief that UAA will actually be good every year. Congrats. :)

i have u DIRTY as a ND fan?

Dirty:
Do I really have to explain what "fan" means again? It's short for "fanatic". What sort of fan doesn't think they're team will be good? I KNOW you understand exactly what I've said in the past versus the absolute BUNK that is my reputation; so why come here and perpetrate that false crap?

The plain fact of the matter is that even though UAA finished 10th in the WCHA they were better (as determined by KRACH) than at least 35 other Division 1 teams in each of those seasons.

Dirty said...

No, many fans are able to be rational about their team and have expectations that are in line for the team. I thought UND would finish 3rd or 4th in the WCHA this year. From year to year, what I think the Sioux will do changes. Sometimes I overestimate them and sometimes I underestimate them.

You on the other hand always over estimate what your team of castoffs is actually capable of doing.

If I was a fan of the Detroit Lions and I predicted they would make the playoffs every year, I would be taunted for having such these beliefs because the Lions suck. Well Anchorage is the Detroit Lions of the WCHA. They suck. You have to accept this and adjust your beliefs accordingly. As it is now, your predictions of how UAA will do is just a weekly reminder of how off your rocker you truly are.

Since Sunday you have only had 1308hits till now at 1500 hours central standard time so to say your kicking USCHO's ass is a little silly and kind of a stretch. Continue living in the never never land. I bet your a fan of Michael Jackson as well :)

Donald Dunlop said...

Dear USCHO employee posting as anon@1217:

Thanks for stopping by ...

I said nothing about "hits" but thanks for adding the information to my "pwnage" of USCHO. I had more views and hits than the USCHO thread. Excellent.

The UAA Blueliner news letter says the games will be on GCI this weekend. Here is what my email said:

"The UAA Blueliner hockey booster club will host a watch party for this weekend's UAA at North Dakota WCHA hockey series at The Peanut Farm, 5227 Old Seward Highway.

Friday's (Nov. 14) game will air live locally at 4:30 p.m. on GCI Cable Channel 1 as well as on the NHL Channel (Dish Network channels 770-778). Saturday's (Nov. 15) game will air live locally at 4 p.m. on GCI Cable Channel 1.

Both watch parties will feature door prizes between periods and after the game."

Okay, resume your bickering.

Dirty is one of about 5 UND fans that actively use their sense of humor online. There are a couple of things to be aware of with regard to him.

1. He'll put on any other teams sweater if he thinks it will make a female look at him twice.
2. He puts "Sioux Sweep" at the bottom of every post he makes in weekly threads at USCHO.

With that in mind, I understand that he really doesn't understand what it is to be a "fan" so half-cocked comparisons to some professional sports team are irrelevant to the discussion. And of course, calling me out for having the balls to come on the Internet and express my fanatical beliefs (of which I always readily admit they are fanatical) regarding my team while putting "Sioux Sweep" at the end of every game thread post is the pot calling the kettle black.

Dirty so recognizes the breadth of my greatness that some of what he does in the hockey online world is an homage to me. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a small shrine to me in his closet right next to the GRAND SHRINE to MEg that he prays to nightly.

All that said, he is one of the few UND fans that I wouldn't object to sharing the air I breathe.

I hope the Seawolves remember last years games at UND. From what the UND fans said, the Sioux were chasing UAA all over the ice, but UAA had soft goaltending and the Sioux had Lammy.

Lammy is gone, and UAA has scorers and much better goaltending. Hoping BRYCE gets the start tomorrow night, if not I will be royally miffed. Pay back UAA, pay back. Get the win/s this weekend!

Jimjamesak said...

Looked at my program guide and it says UAA Hockey on channel 1, 4:30pm Friday, 4pm Saturday.

Anonymous said...

first Shiak said the job had to be earned then he said the team waws better with both Goalies rotating game by game which lets face it is extremly contrversial right now so it will come down to another weekend of you guessed it THE SAME OLD STORY so I guess that they dont think Bryce can handle the load so hopefully it will all work out

Anonymous said...

Sounds like they still aren't sure if Portwood will be playing this weekend. Anyone know if he made the trip?

Donald Dunlop said...

Shyiak said on the coaches show that he thought Jade would be ready to go this weekend.

Anonymous said...

I didn't know how to take what he said, there was some uncertainty there. I hope he is good to go.

Anonymous said...

i ran into jade earlier in the week and he said his knee is good and he's going to play against north dakota

Anonymous said...

Good luck to the boys this week-end!

You're right, of course. I missed Dakota Territory by a year, I guess. What you do expect from a stupid Canuck? My American history not funny.

UAA's year is next year...they get heckled for finishing last for 3 years in a row (and rightly justified), but they will not finish last this year. Next year they will vie nfor home ice, or at least be EXPECTED to. Next year is THEIR year to shine, just like last year was Tech's (which they completely pissed down their legs) and this year is Mankato. With the goaltending experience and the crop of scorers that will be seniors next year, UAA will make noise.
