Post Game Interviews 12-11-10 vs Denver
The Seawolves tie Denver tonight 2-2 after a close, hard fought game. I thought the Seawolves had either had it in the OT or, at the very least, should've had a penalty shot to try to win it.
Rob Gunderson continued his strong play stopping 20 of 22 shots. The key to this was a better performance from the defense in front of him. Gundy wasn't called to make many spectacular saves as last night. To that end a strong start did wonders, leading to a Power Play goal (the second of the weekend). A turnover led to DU's first goal and DU added another after some strong play in the second. UAA seemed to take over in the third leading to the Game Tying Goal from Mitch Bruijsten after some nice passing from Craig Parkinson and a swift move from Mitch. Disappointing to not get the win but it is good to get a point and is something to build on for the next half.
Interviews tonight from Coach Shyiak (I stupidly cut off my recording as he was wishing Happy Holidays. Oops) and Craig Parkinson talking about his penalty killing early on in the game and the game tying goal.
A big Holiday break now with a month until the next game. I'm sure Donald and I will around posting during the Holiday break.

Thanks again JJ for this.
Just watched the replay of the waived off goal in OT. Looks like it hit the post and didn't go in the net.
However, Shore blatantly tripped Grant on a scoring chance just before that play, and no call was made. UAA was 50% on the PP on Fri. and 25% on Sat. There is a good chance they may have won had the ref made the right call and taken their WCHA based red glasses off.
Way to go Parky, giving up the body tonight. I wish more players played with the grit that he and Portwood show.

Not quite comprehending the whole "only intent is negativity" part are ya? Better luck next time.
The teams play is something all of us can be proud of.
It's a good time to heal up some bumps and bruises.
Some of the guys will be at home for the Holidays.
Happy Holidays to all the Seawolves and their fans!
Al
Al, I know I am certainly very proud of the players. You would never guess that 10 freshmen dressed last Saturday night. This team has a lot of chemistry and they are fun to watch.
It will be good to have Kane back with the team in January!
I'm betting Kane's return puts Leinweber at forward for pretty much the rest of the season. That will be a good thing offensively especially when Curtis and someone else find some chemistry together.
There's lots of reasons to hope (or even expect) that the 2nd half will see an increase in the winning percentage. We have 10 points now. There are 28 more that are available. Anything more than 14 of those 28 points would be pretty nice.
Looking at the remaining schedule, I can see us with 14 more points in the 2nd half. Rest up guys and lets give them hell in 2011! - Fan
The UAA website has a new poll up, you can vote for the teams MVP thus far:

Grant, Kwas, Gundy and Vidmar are listed, although I would add a few more players to that list.
It's the midpoint of the Seawolf hockey season. Who has been the team's MVP so far?
Jordan Kwas, Luka Vidmar, Tommy Grant, or Rob Gunderson.

I was going to vote for Grant, but sadly I've expected more from him. Not to downplay the last few weeks he's came up big for us; but he scores when we need it, not enough soo far in the season in my opinion. So I cast my vote for Gundy!
I voted for Gundy too. The difference maker between this season and past seasons is we have goalies who can help the team win.
I hope there is a captain picked for the second half of the year. My vote would be Parky. I always ask myself, if I were in a fox hole who would I want there with me? My answer has to be Parky, he sacrifices his body game in and game out.
Gundy is MVP so far, and yes parkinson should be Team captain. most improved from last year so far is Mitch Bruijsten
I can get onboard with Parky for Captain ... no doubt about it.
What about Haddad? Worthy of a mention.
A lot of players are worthy of mention. Haddad has been playing great this season. We need more scoring though, from everyone.
Just an FYI ... I'm about halfway through a LONG post focusing on the play of each indivdual player. It's long ... too long to finish all at once. I should have it done sometime late saturday afternoon or early evening. It's long.
I was wondering if you were going to have a mid season report card. Can't wait to read it, and thanks for all the work you put into this blog.
