Seawolves 2 - DU 3

38.9 seconds.  That's all the time that needed to pass to not break my heart tonight.  38.9 seconds.  The Seawolves fought the good fight tonight coming back to tie the game at 1-1 and then 2-2.  The players all deserve credit for playing with 110% intensity.  They gave it their all and showed both nights that they can play with any team in the country.  The Pios should feel lucky.  Not to take away from the winning goal here, Rakhshani made a great between the legs blind pass from behind the net and Ruegsegger finished it ... with 38.9 seconds left.

Mickey Spencer scored a pretty goal on a one-timer where he had to pivot to get the shot off tying the game 1-1.  And Kevin Clark made a great effort to work the puck out front and Nick Haddad masterfully batted it in out of the air to make it 2-2.  The Seawolves deserved more than they got this weekend.  One point isn't nearly satisfying.  The Pios deserved less than they got this weekend.

The game has been done for about 25 minutes at this point and there still is no boxscore posted.  Why?  Because there was a fair bit of bullshit after the horn.  It started when Patrick Wiercioch and Brad Gorham challenged for a puck as the horn sounded.  Wiercioch immediately took a shot at Gorham's head and everyone else seemed to square off.  The moron on DU's radio said Clark started it with Wiercioch.  Clark wasn't anywhere near Wiercioch when Wiercioch took a cheap shot at Gorham's head.

It'll be nice if someone manages to post some video of all the post game activities.  Like I said, all I saw was Wiercioch start it with Gorham.  There were apparently a number of other guys squared off.  I did see someone on top of William Wrenn rubbing his nose into the ice.  And I saw a DU player being the third man into an existing scuffle.

It was difficult on the TV coverage to see exactly what was going on because the broadcaster immediately went to George "Jowls" Gwozdecky on the ice eschewing what was actually happening with the players.  He really likes to do that eh?  I guess he thinks he's a player.  He was yelling at Dave Shyiak, who apparently just crossed his arms in Jowls direction in response.  Dave knows he is a coach and doesn't play hockey anymore.  Jowls should learn that.  I'd expect that Bruce McLeod will mention something along those lines to him.  He certainly should.

George was busy screaming at everyone because a couple of UAA players had come off the bench and his boys were outnumbered.  They didn't show who was fighting who though because I guess Jowls has it in his contract that the camera focus on him exclusively if he gets on the ice surface.  Does he not understand that the game is played between the players?  Passive/Aggressive drama queens love the limelight I guess.  He was pointing this way and that way like Patton directing traffic and after everything was settled down he sent his team off the ice without the usual handshake.

Ok ... so more than an hour since the game finished and still no boxscore.  I don't have a lot else to say without taking a look at it.  And you shouldn't have to wait all friggin night to read something.  So I'll post this now and add any thoughts after they finally get around to posting the boxscore.

Edits:
9:36PM Alaska Standard Time ... two hours after the game ended.  And no boxscore?  The WCHA headquarters is on the University of Denver campus.  Makes one wonder if there is some McLeod shenanigans at work behind the scenes.

10:01 ... boxscore posted.  Two Game Disqualifications for each team.  For UAA, Crowell and Tuton.  For DU, Ryder and Wrenn.  Lots of double minors for roughing.  No actual "fighting" penalties.  Baldwin gets 5 mins for "grasping the facemask".  Crowell picked up an "instigator" penalty.

No real satisfaction in any of that.  Looks like a political hack job to me.  I'd bet Shyiak and Jowls both had Bruce McLeod's ear and that he "supervised" the referees while they filled in the sheet.  Notice how both teams had 7 players tagged with penalties?  Smells political to me.  The didn't have to balls to do anything but basically "even it up".

I've had my fill of this tonight.

in the last minute of the game, why did we have 4 rookies playing against there top 5 players.
I am sure the seniors and juniors sit on uaa's bench after a hard fought game and loose there composure.
? Shyiak
This never changes.
Clark is a target whenever we play denver. Let the team standup for each other. We had better not get screwed with suspensions, again like two years ago.

What happened after the game was stupid and undisciplined. This happened down in CC one year, and yes we lost a few guys for the next game.

Here they have a chance to pick up 4 points next weekend against Tech, and they go and pull this crap. I am fully expecting some suspensions. Tuton was throwing some major punches that connected. He is wearing the "C", that is not the kind of leadership this team needs right now.

They had a lot to be proud of with how they played this weekend, but they cheapened it with the fighting at the end. I know some of you, including you Donald, won't agree, but that is how I feel about it. Those actions could very well cost them two league points.

Team unity is more important at this point if you ask me.

Wiercioch cheap shotted Gorham at the end of the game and the team pulled together to make a statement.

Good on them.

suze, have you ever played the game, denver likes nothing better to tick our players off, our players played great this weekend.
Captains and assistants have to play tough, they did there job.
This team will surprise alot of teams in the second half.
Denver was scared all weekend, a bad coaching decision in the last minute cost us this game.
Do not sit clark, tution and grant on the bench in the last minute.
No wonder they were ticked off.

all grant does is tippy tap the puck up to neutral ice then takes a shot on goal right into the bread basket. tommy grant is the best skater who cant finish. and im a seawolves fan.

four pts means nothing in michigan,
this team has 14 league games left,
they will win more than half of them.
Getting the team in 7 or 8th place and knocking off a team in the first round is all that matters.
Play tough like they did this weekend and colorado and minnesota
will worry when they come to the sully.
This team is preparing for the second half, clark and tuton and the new player gordham play tough.
Give them credit they scared the hell out of denver this weekend.

Crowell and Tuton got game DQ's for UAA

Notice how neither team's "star players" got any DQs? Wiercioch got off easy after he started the whole fucking thing.

Weecock definitely deserves a DQ as instigator.

This team after Christmas looks like a whole new team with a new attitude. Tuton stood up to defend his teammate out of frustration. The boys emotions must have been through the roof those last 38 seconds. 4 rookies should not be on the ice at the end of the game when the score is tied. Gwoz plays his top guys in the last minutes, no mystery there. Shyiak...That move didn't help with the whole emotional end to the game.

Great way to start the second half, let's sweep michingan with the same tough playmaking and never say die attitude.
The seniors showed they will be serious in the second half.
Denver will not want to meet us in the playoffs.
One weekend at a time, great when they get home to play colorado and minnesota gophers, let's fill the sully and make a run for the playoffs.
Again great weekend to our leaders on the team, the freshman see there is a good team here.

To anon who said "four pts means nothing in michigan". Excuse my french but that is bullshit. EVERY point in this league counts.

Losing to a team like Tech takes away the momentum and mental edge the team has right now. A sweep this weekend is essential.

Hey Donald, on the bright side, these suspensions SHOULD mean that Ken Selby will get to play, at least on Friday night. I hope he does and if so, I hope he has a good game.

FOUR PTS MEANS NOTHING IN MICHIGAN BECAUSE EVERYONE BEATS MICHIGAN.
We only get recognition when we beat a top five team.
Anything less than four pts. is out of the question.
Great to see Tuton our captain stand up for his team.
First year ever assistants and captains stood up for your team.
This team is on a roll, no negative comments to our team.
We get enough from other blogs.
Great weekend coverage Donald.

Look..we still havnt won in 4 games. close only counts in horseshoes and hand gernades.yeah we played em close..blah..blah blah. We have won how many games this yr? This coming up weekend is the battle of the basement of the WCHA. Thats were we are at. These games will dictate how things will go for the second half and I dont care what anyone says we better see some Drastic improvement because our progam is at some serious stages in its short life. We need a sweep. Good luck.

When was the last time UAA swept Tech? I can't recall, and we always go into their barn thinking it's an easy series and come home with two points. Gotta get 4 points this weekend guys, it is crucial.

Just watched the replay of the end of the game. Yup, Shyiak had Baldwin, Spencer, Gellert, Leinweber and Gorham on the ice. I have to agree with the previous poster, he shoulda had upperclassmen out there.

The last time we were at Tech it was a miracle we got points. I recall 49 standing on his head in the one game we did win as we were badly outplayed and outshot both games. We have only one 4 games all year in the WCHA so it will be interesting what happens this coming weekend and how it determines the make up of the second half.
