Surrey Eagles 1993 playmaking forward Michael Stenerson has committed to play for the UAA Seawolves beginning in 2012-2013.  Stenerson (5ft 10in 165lbs) is in his first season of Junior A hockey after spending last two years respectively at the Major Midget level with Valley West Hawks and Semiahmoo Ravens of the BCMMHL.

In this BCHL release Michael talks about coming to UAA saying,
"This is a great Christmas present. I am really excited to be going to Alaska-Anchorage, a Division 1 team. I would like to thank Coach Shyiak for providing me this opportunity and the Eagles coaches, especially Matt Erhart, and players for helping me attain my goal of playing collegiate hockey."
Surrey's Head Coach Erhart goes on to say,
"Mike has worked extremely hard for this and will be a key part to a great school in the WCHA. The coaching staff is very proud of his accomplishment and we look forward to developing his skills for Div 1 hockey."
So far this season the left-handed forward has played in 35 Eagles games scoring 7 goals and adding 14 assists.  4 of his goals have come as part of the 2nd power play unit.  Surrey is currently in 3rd place in the BCHL's Coastal Conference with a 22-12-1-2 record for 47 points.

Welcome to the Seawolves Michael.  We'll be tracking your progress here for the remainder of this season and next.  Best of luck to you and the Eagles.

"Lee Baldwin reassigned to ECHL Greenville
Reads the news banner. This is why you shouldn't leave NCAA after one (extremely) poor year. Once you go to the EC League, you probably don't come back.

I couldn't agree more ... if there was ever a player that could have gotten more out of a 4 year career than Lee, I don't know who it is. The NCAA and especially the WCHA was tailor-made for his development.

I know that some are talking about bringing the "Ref-O-Meter" back to the Sully, but does anyone know what happened to that blimp that used to fly around the arena dropping gift certificates and vouchers?

anyone notice the trend towards smaller forwards that Coach has been recruiting?

I have noticed the smaller recruits. I think UAA used to recruit big guys who could bang around the other teams and wear them down (UA_ comes to mind), but with the league calling everything, teams can't hit like they used to.

I remember Shyiak saying the refs were turning mens hockey into a womens league. Anyway, that probably has something to do with the smaller players. Small and fast. Speed kills.
