Boremidji Wins Turtle Fight

17 shots for the Beaver ... 16 shot for the Seawolves.  Gametime .. 2 hours and 3 minutes.  Where have I seen numbers like that before?  Dean Talafous coached Boremidji tonight?  No doubt the Beaver dictated the pace of tonights game.  After the Seawolves stupidly gave up another brutally early goal just 17 seconds in the rest of the game was a complete snooze-fest.

The Seawolves never found a way to open up the game and to be honest ... for the biggest majority of the game they were just as happy to sit back in a defensive shell as the Talafous led Beaver were.  There was a brief stint in the 3rd when the Seawolves managed to open up the game and there was actually some end to end play.

But that ended when somedumbref called a ridiculous 5 minute major on Mickey Spencer.  The Seawolves killed that nicely and managed to even generate some pressure short handed.  But no sustainable momentum followed.  Not committing any penalties in the first two periods cost the Seawolves though as the all-important "even it up" rule came into play in the third and somedumbref recognized that it was time to stack penalties on the Seawolves and give Boremidji at 5-3 chance.  A goal during that put an end to any idea of coming back for the Seawolves.  There isn't much else to analyze from this zzZZzzzZzZzZZZzzzzzZzzzz ... oops sorry; fell asleep there for a second.

Where was I?  Oh yeah ... it was a borefest in Paul Bunyanland.  Seriously though, did the Seawolves scare Tom Serratore that much?  I guess he recognized that Friday night's score would have been 5-2 without flukes and Anderson looking at replays?

Mad phat props to Talafous though as who can fault him when it ended up with a W for them?

So.  What's up with all the early goals?  This shit isn't new.  It happened last year.  It's happening this year.  What has to change to change that?  Because that shit needs to change.  The fucking game winning goal tonight was scored 17 seconds into the game.  18 seconds in and the game is over?

It.Is.Unacceptable.  Quit.Letting.That.Happen.  Doesn't.Matter.Who.Is.To.Blame.  ... Just cut it out!

That is all I've got to say.

The game was very slow, you would think the two last place teams in the WCHA could try just a little harder.I also blame the stupid ref for loosing the game for us. We played a way better game than them.UA_ won their game. They beat a team rated in the top 5 I think. :)

I don't it was a matter of effort rather a matter of the kind of game both teams decided to play. All defense basically.

I haven't watched the Friday game, but the Bemidji announcers made it sound like it should have been a Bemidji blowout. You know, if you take away the breakaway goals and this goal or that goal.

Bemidji averaged 4 goals a game this weekend...us 2.5... Where's our offense?We didn't even sniff a goal Saturday night.

Kevin Clark scored the game winner last nite in winnipeg to help his team to a 6 to 2 win over the rochester americans. The nite before kevin also scored, In 9 games clarky has scored 3 goals and 3 assists.
Off to a good start in the ahl.
All the best to Uaa,
fan

Giving up goals early in games is a lack of preparation. It's the coach's job to make sure his team is prepared. Enough said.

ASF,
I've got several excellent banner pics and I just want to add variety to the banner.

I give up, why did Talafous coach? Did Serratore get suspended for answering your email?

Talafous coaching was a metaphor. He was UAA's head coach for 4 years and was renowned for playing the most boring style of hockey eVaH. By your question I must gauge my use of it as more vague than I thought. Alas...

UAA fans knew exactly what what you were talking about. Sorry Viz, that was funny! ;)

I was confused as well. Thanks for clearing it up.

scored just 11 goals in 6 league games so far. goalie save percentage under 90. special teams are just horrible. giving up goals in the first minute of games. What is it? COACHING! The players are putting out solid effort. They are working hard. The adjustments and coaching techniques have to be questioned because this is a trend from the past. After 8 games 1 - 5 - 2 is not good enough with huskies at home CC in the springs and bucky and the pios before the break. Hopefully with home games the team can get a couple of victories before the month break.

I think we need a new coach. It's time people! Hey, I missed Sunday Potpourri. What's up Donald?

First off, it was boring, mostly because UAA didn't change their playing style at all to combat the neutral zone trap that BSU threw at them. Dump and chase against a team that traps is generally a good plan, unless the trap is a 1-2-1-1 and the deep man keeps corralling the dumped puck. Way to adjust Shyiak. Maybe, though, it wasn't Shyiak's fault. Perhaps there is not a single player on the team who could actually take the puck into the zone... it's possible, but I find it hard to believe. Of course, if that is the case the blame falls on the head recruiter for not bringing in a player to do this.

Note to all who enter here: Don't bother complaining about the coach, its futile.

Schedule is as follows: St. Cloud, CC, Wisconsin, DU, CC, DU, Minn...

Thus, if we have 5 wins by February I'll be extremely surprised. Kiss Sam Mellor goodbye folks.

LET THE TWO MINUTES OF HATE BEGIN!!!

I think all head coaches in the WCHA should be assigned to teams using a lottery system. The assignments last two years and then we have another.

FYI – this is not the dumbest remark I have posted here…

On Wolves, kiss Sam Mellor goodbye? Why? What do you plan on doing to him?

Donald Dunlop said...

On Wolves,
Wouldn't futility mean that I'd delete your comments? Are you not allowed to express yourself freely here? Do I not often engage your criticism with my own views on the Shyiak matter which you so often address?

In general, the only thing that is futile to express here is bullshit posts from North Dakota.

Anon@330,
I sometimes skip writing on Sunday if I've put in a big effort during the week. I thought I posted quite a bit last week in the run up to the games and of course the 4 posts during the weekend.

I meant that complaining about Shyiak is futile period, not just here. As long as he graduates players Cobb is happy to remain in the basement... maybe he'll change his mind when we get booted from the new WCHA (when the Big 10(11,12) creates their hockey league). Of course by then it will be too late...

By a show of hands who thinks a future top-three-round-draft-pick is going to come to a team that finishes last? I hate it more than any of you can understand, but its a fact.

Thank you for you intelligent contribution to the conversation.

Onwolves,

"Fans" like you are part of the problem. Quit being so negative and have some faith. Remember, what is written here is read everywhere.

What UAA lacks is a proven goal scorer. Mellor is that, and can drastically help turn things around. He would really stand out at UAA, would he at another WCHA school? Maybe, but then look at the way some of those coaches fail to get the most out of their top recruits.

Any WCHA player will get the recognition, no matter the team.

Remember what Glencross did for UAA? They went to the WCHA Final Five. I am very optimistic that with the talented freshmen and incoming players we have, including Mellor, that UAA can get back there.
