WCHA Awards: Lunden and Lawson

The WCHA announced it's Player of the Week awards today. Josh Lunden was honored as the Rookie of the Week. Congratulations to Josh. His speed, strength and goal scoring ought to lead to more of these sort of awards as his career progresses at UAA.

Nathan Lawson was named Co-Player of the Week with Glenn Fisher from DU. Fisher only played one game on the weekend facing 31 shots in a 1-0 win vs. MTU. I'm not here to 'dis Glenn Fisher but ... PUHLEASE ... gimme a break. Lawson's performance was far superior.

It seems to me that "awards" are just about as arbitrary as polls. Co-DPoW? Co? That sure takes a bit of the "shine" off the award. Anyone care to guess which city is the home for the WCHA offices? That's right. Denver. I don't think any INCH offices are in Denver.

Aren't the WCHA offices in Madison??? And 31 save shutout is not to be sneered at. The problem that I see is that one night does not make a weekend. Thus I agree that Lawson got snubbed.

Donald, are we going to create our He-Man-Gopher-Hating club? You can write the charter.

"He-Man"? I'd be happy to write a charter for a gopher hating club but it'll have to be called something other than "He-Man"

DC said...

Read the comments on WCH... someone suggested we create the club.
I personally would think of a better name... esp. being a non-man and all.

Yeah I remembered that Bruce was a DU guy after I wrote that, but all their press releases come from Madison it seems like. So Bruce is biased towards DU, wasn't he their Athletic Director before or am i confused. Either way the point is playing one game shouldn't get you weekly honors.

But Lunden and Lawson get the honors they deserve even if Lawson has to share.

I dunno if I could stand looking at all that crap again.

It would be a nice self-fulfilling prophecy for their paranoia ...

So it's not really a prophecy nor is it self-fulfilling I suppose ... but I like the phrase ... so there ya have it.

Did you even notice that I registered and posted over at tPB?

DC said...

I did notice, you are joining like every board ever. Did you notice I defended you on Siouxsports?
That was probably my best post ever on tPB.

As for the WCH comments, here's what went down:
Someone said CC and Notre Dame offered Tony Lucia scholarships. I said "Really? CC and Notre Dame? Other schools the Don coached at? His alma mater? Wow!!!"
and someone replied "Wow is right. Tony Lucia is offered scholarships at universities where his father coached in the past and that means what. That these programs are doing an ex-coach a favor. To whose benefit? Get out your tin-foil hat and start watching the skies the black helicopters are coming. You and donald need to start a club. I have name suggestion. The He-man-Gopher-haters."
I love that you said it should have been a goal, and everyone is still saying you hate the Gophers. PLUS it's dumb because pretty much everyone who hates the Gophers also hates Wisconsin, so it's not like we're playing favorites.

Also, anonymous, Bruce McLeod is a UMD guy.

Lunden plays very well on his line, he deserved it. YAY!

I hate every team equally except for St. Bob ...

Gopher fans are funny when they don't mean to be.

As for Bruce McLeod ... I didn't mean to imply that I thought he was personally somehow responsible for Lawson getting snubbed. He is actually a good friend of the UAA program. He and Brush go WAY back.

I am not taking it that it was a purely personal thing with Bruce, since he isn't a player of the week dictator. But i have had some problems with things that I emailed him on, and he emailed me back which was surprising, but not sure if they were ever "really" handled. so i am not suspicious of the man. and plus its easier to make up conspiracy theories from behind a puter moniter.

The UAA fans sure spend a lot of energy crying over spilt milk...
.
"We're not ranked in the Top 20"
.
"We're Co-Defensive Player of the Week"
.
"We swept UND at home, we're the team of the century"
.
"The WCHA is out to get us"
.
"Alaska stole our name"

Anon@4:27:
Are you implying that Mankato fans didn't get a chubby when they came back from 7-1 to tie DU? There was enough buzz on the internet that week to fill hundreds of viagra bottles. That was the "big moment" in Mankato since your fine town hung 39 "renegade redskins" wasn't it?

Go back and try to concern youself with your hopes and dreams for next year. We're still working on 06-07 here.

Hey now...what would indicate the Anon at 4:27am is a Mankato fan?!?!? Unless I missed something, it looks like you're just jumping to conclusions there! It's probably a UND fan that's still pissed about the sweep!

I, even as a woman, possibly did get a chubby at that game:) HA HA!

Be nice to Kato...we're in the same boat as you and understand the thought of getting excited over the small acheivements and single wins. We, as the lower half teams of the WCHA, need to stick together!!

Thing sure are getting interesting up here on the "UAA Chubby Blog."

Before UAA & Mankato start skewering each other, I have to admit that I was "Anon 4:27." I wasn't logged in this morning...

I made a bad call. For ANON posts I'm forced to look at my counter page. At 4:16 I had a post from Houston and at 4:17 I had a post from Mankato.

So here's my thinking ...

Houston? Hmmm ... if I had a million readers then maybe I'd have all of 2 in Houston so that's got to be DG. Would he "troll" me? End of that line of thinking ...

Mankato huh? ... someone from a struggling team is dogging UAA fans for being happy about finally winning? Um ... well hey ... they're in Minnesota. So on some level they're still a gopher fan and I just busted some of them up over on a WCH comments section ... ok I'll go with that.

So I didn't actually use the "Jump to Conclusions" mat and instead played Sherlock. Besides ... I've been trying to find a way to work the whole "mass hanging" thing into something.

Second besides: At 45 and having been involved with women for long long long periods of time I'm well aware it's better to do something then apologize later than it is to ask first.

Sorry Kato folks.

Wow, you ARE old...

LetsGoMavs said...

What? You have a way of seeing who's checked your blog by location so you know it was a person from Kato? I'm confused? If it was...let me know and I'll go find the jack-hole and tell them to be nice:)

I'm "Svengali" old ...

letsgomavs:
Yep. ... Its called sitemeter ... mine is little colorful icon at the bottom of my blog ... click it.

Anyway, it was that fucker DG!!! Not any nice person from Mankato. LOL. I couldn't believe it. I'm rubbing my paws together right now scheming some way to get him back for making me embarrass myself.

dggoddard said...

Hey Chubby,

You're never going to build any numbers if you keep insulting you're readers from Mankato. (Hey Mankato Readers: Come visit LetsGoDU where Customer Service and polite discourse isn't just a slogan, its the way we operate).

You don't need to get me back, I'm a friend of the UAA Blog. :-) I have to admit I'm having a good old chuckle tonight in Houston. The only reason I confessed is that I figured you'd catch me in the end.

My figerprints were all over the "post" with periods between the paragraphs. Plus I never would have passed the polygraph (I'm a lousey liar).

Sincerely,

Glenn Fisher

DG,
When you wrote your Madison road trip story ... why'd you leave out the part where your fellow intrepid alumni kept calling you a dork?

dggoddard said...

Thats why I write the blog and the story so I get the last word. Congrats on Making "LetsGoDU's" latest article. :-)
